FOUND Two DeLoreans - One Day

I am a longtime fan of BTTF, and am equally a fan of the DMC itself. I tell my friends and family that I often suffer from what I describe as DeLorean fever. It's symptoms include going-on about the car and often engaging strangers in conversation that could possibly lead to DeLoreans.

While working a weekend ago I found myself speaking with an older motorcycle mechanic who also specializes in repairing older Volvos. I of course had to ask if he knew anything about 2.85litre PRV V6s. He then told me about a DeLorean he knew of, parked and neglected for at least 3 years.

A few days later I drop by. Sure enough there it sits behind a tow/body shop. The owner was not around and one of his coworkers explained the owner thinks its worth a fortune. He went on to tell me about how the car isn't worth much money, and was suprisingly knowledgeable about the car itself.

I am pursuing more details about this car and wanted to bring it to the forums attention. Hopefully more than a parts car but that remains to be seen. The car is in the Philadelphia area.

My DeLorean fever symptoms have been increasing in frequency since DCS last summer. The only cure: ownership?

My dream car would be a late model flat hood manual/grey. But it's hard to ignore this one, the fit around the rear fascia is especially terrific and only a single ding in the drivers fender. It's unreal seeing the stainless in the sun, I burnt my forearm trying to photograph the VIN.

Unfortunately it will cost about $116 to get in the car. Both of the plastic door handles were broken off. Is there any other way to get in except breaking the toll window?

Perhaps this is not the car for me. I get the 25K rule, but I wouldn't mind saving a few hundred on labor cutting my fingers on some stainless.

Speaking of "DeLorean fever"... I thought this was funny. Someone from the Long Island club I believe coined the word "Durrets" = DeLorean Turrets. This is where you all of the sudden burst out with something DeLorean related in any conversation having nothing to do with it. I have this about 7 times a day.

Hey there, I live in South Jersey also and I know of another Delorean for sale in Gloucester County. It's in rough shape too but at least you can get in it, it's an earlier model I believe but is manual and is turbo'ed. You might want to check it out.

Wow that's a short drive from where I am located. 15K for a car that hasn't ran in ten years seems pretty steep. A non functioning turbo is more trouble than its worth? How about 5K. I am skilled but not experienced.

aipri, taking your car to any events in the area in the near future? I've only ever seen two in the wild round these parts and that was a long time ago.

I agree but I'm sure you could negotiate the price down. Not aware of any local events at the moment so tough to say

We often have people come over who are looking to learn more or who are just curious (often BTTF fans). You are more than welcome to come by if you would like to see (at least) 3. We had a very nice father/son come by last weekend. The son was 10 and a HUGE BTTF fan. The father was an engineer who was also very intereseted in the cars.

And if Donna (Tom's wife) is making lunch, I strongly suggest attending. Forget the Delorean stuff, Donna can straight up COOK! It's worth coming for the lunch alone.

I'm going to drop by to get a better look of the underside of the automatic and I've got a message out to the craigslist ad here in good old Gloucester County.

DeLorean fever even gets you in your sleep. Last night I asked the late John DeLorean his personal opinions on DMC12 performance as well as his former daily driver the Acura NSX. He drove home the weight issue of the fiberglass and the choked-by-emissions motor as throwing off the power to weight ratio. He explained the terrific handling of Honda's flagship and even complimented my own 95 Prelude. Now I know I'm dreaming... coming up on 300K with plenty of rust.

Near Manyunk. If you look for Todd's Towing on satellite view you can actually see it. I have not yet spoken to the owner but figured someone could do something with this particular D before it gets any worse.

Ha. You can see it. I don't think we've met but I had a debilitating case of Delo syndrome for about 15yrs (the worst they have ever seen) the only cure was more cowbell .. err wait .. no .. it was to buy my very own Delo. Unbelievable feeling. Im sure all who conquered the disease can confirm.

PB is just my initials. I have a PB Co brick on my desk and people think I run a company.

Unfortunately I am committed this Sat and the next.

I was passing by again on my lunch and snapped some more photos. Spoke with someone else who explained it belongs to a friend of the guy next door. Specifically, the cars owner is in jail and his brother is friends with with the owner of the place "storing" the DeLorean. He described having to move it from the front to the back of the place because of all the attention. No chance of it going anywhere anytime soon and with the owner in prison who knows where the title could be found. If anyone needs more details or want to pursue it further let me know. I saw cracks/rust in the frame epoxy but it's all there. Almost impossible to look underneath as it is sinking into the ground. I put my phone on the dirt to get the shots. Look for them later tonight.

The Prelude is a wonderful car. My Dad owned an 86. Loved those flip up lights and wish he had never sold it. The dashboard of the 92-96 Preludes is way ahead of its time. My own has seen better days and while it is not my daily driver I still keep it running and take it out as often as I can.

Wow, looks like the epoxy on the front frame extension isn't just cracked... it appears the frame extension itself is bent. Possibly because the car didn't have the front end recall performed?

I will never, ever get why people who think their DeLoreans are worth a pile of money just park them outside with no protection & just allow them to rot. I've seen it over & over throughout the years. :mad1:

I saw that too... didn't know if it was just the epoxy separating or a bend in the metal. A few more storms in the area and this thing will be touching the ground.

That is not "storing" a DeLorean.

Definitely sad. I couldn't get low enough to see anything so I had use the camera. It'll be in that dirt by the time this rain ends. Which is apparently Tues.

That's funny, I'm one town over in Mullica Hill. I guess the fever is spreading through Gloucester County! Haha. That car is in Oak Valley, I can show you where it is if you want. I used to live down the street from them. The owner is in AZ and his parents live there, they were very nice when I talked to them
