View Full Version : Electrical Stereo restarts when engine is cranked

When I crank my engine my (aftermarket) stereo restarts. This is irritating because it resets the iPhone integration and causes a random track to queue up. I imagine this would be due to either a voltage drop across the electrical system as the starter cranks (i.e. voltage drop on purple B+ wire) or a voltage drop on the lightgreen+white "auxiliary systems" wire. Does anyone know offhand which of these (if not both) happen in the DeLorean? I'd like to avoid taking apart interior pieces and breaking out the multimeter if I can :)

I'm hoping I can throw a capacitor in somewhere and prevent this behavior. If anyone has done this before, advice would be appreciated!

You most likely have your constant power hooked up to a source that disengages(or drops a lot of voltage) during starting.

A weak or bad ground can also cause something like this.

You may just have a weak battery or connection. If you still find it still resets, I would drive the memory connection wire with a diode and capacitor after the diode. You need a diode so your capacitor does not discharge back into the starter current.
