Found this on Instagram, and I can't say that I have seen this before - top half stainless and bottom have painted.

Anyone know anything about it? Was it a painted car that was half de-painted, or did the owner just paint the bottom half.

Interior is a nice looking stock grey/manual.

Love to see some more pictures of it. It's in NY state.

Possible inspiration for the next Hotwheels release ?

I think it's fully painted...just two tone. The top is either silver paint or clearcoated stainless...hard to tell for sure. It's definitely been cleared over no matter which it is.

I have seen one like that though The top half was left stainless, the bottom half was done in a charcoal/silver...looked nice even though you know it was done to cover up damage.

I'm stuck between "horrible" and "fantastic"...

I actually like that. I think the pinstripe pulls it off.

Yep, you're right Michael - painted silver on top. Should have noticed the young lady's reflection.

I love it! Looks like an offcial pace car.
Next best painted Delorean after a black one.

I used to have a '72 Pantera I had painted like that. Iridescent Pearl on top with
Black Pearl below. We called it 'Boxer' paint after the BB512 Ferraris that were
painted like that. I don't have pictures handy but it was pretty killer. :rock_on:
It made it look lower than it was.
I thought the Delorean would look good like that so I took a roll of black stickyback
and put on the car for a visual and it did look good but I got distracted and
never did it.

I like the two tone of this color, it's nice.
Remember me a DeLorean in Black & Gold, like a Trans-Am back in the old days.
Nevertheless, I think this car doesn't exist like this, and its back to stainless now.

Stainless above the rub strip ... painted black below the rub strip.

This one was for sale almost a decade ago ... listed in Virgina.

There used to be one very similar that frequented a Golf Course close to my home. It was original stainless on the top and a bright Metallic Blue below the door trim. Not my taste but to each his own.

That is officially my favourite painted Delorean to date, and I'm not easily impressed by painted Deloreans because I honestly feel things like paint and rims dates the car. Somehow the juxtaposition just doesn't work for me.

Agreed with Dave!
I even love the extra touch the white rims give!!!!:race:

I know many owners dislike colored Deloreans, but I could appreciate those.

The first Delorean I ever looked at to buy was an deep red (+/- the color of Curtis' Delorean) and did not look bad at all. But as it was a painted car I have been thinking of painting it SS color like the top color in the picture. Nice and shiney, easy to clean, nt bad at all. Hard to see from a distance it is painted.
Clearcoat is not that easy becasue painted Deloreans have a primer coat first. I'm not an engineer but paint does not stick well to Stainless, so I guess a clearcoat is the same. However there are some clearcoat panels out there but not on cars that are driven.

That is the most stereotypically 80s DeLorean I've seen.

That stripe makes me think of the German flag.

I think I read an article about the car [in front of the Coke trucks] posted by Nightflyer years ago saying a lot of suspension work was done to the car. Eight inch
wide tires up front and ten inch wide tires in back. This meant the LCA, upper a-arm and both rear swing arms had to be shortened two inches. Can anyone verify this? or am I blown' smoke?

You're right, the car is in this magazine: Sports Car Graphic - Feb. 1984

This IIRC this car was owned by the Legendary Smokey Yunick. "Evil" Dan Duetsch (Danrc30) of the Delorean Mid-Atlantic club owns the car now. He restored it back to Stainless about 8 years ago.

The only way this picture gets better is if the trucks in the back had "NEW COKE" (circa 1985) instead of Coca Cola Classic.

I think the fact that there's "coke" involved at all makes it kinda funny.

Just imagine the added level of funny to BTTF, had Coke been a sponsor instead of Pepsi! :hysterical:

Definitely not to my taste, but at least it looks to be in very nice condition - especially the interior. $30k might be reaching a bit, but if the right buyer comes along who loves that custom look, it could happen.

Call me suspicious, but no engine bay pic?

Looks like they got an engine pic up there now. They say the A/C was all redone, but that compressor (and belt) looks stock to me. I'd call BS on any significant engine work too, rusty hose clamp heads don't give me a good feeling. I'd still go 18K if a good frame pic was given. I'm betting it gets close to 23.
