Does anyone have the dimensions of the PRV? Length, Width, and Height?

The whole engine or just the block? I have the block (upper crankcase) in my shed I could measure.

Measured my dressed engine I have on the floor.

21" deep
26" wide ( not counting the AC comp)
18" tall ( no pan, no intake, no WP
22" tall with dmc pan to top of valve covers
31" tall with pan to Kjet manifold and Fuel dizzy

I'm looking for measurements of a fully-dressed engine and my spare DeLorean long block is still in storage. Long story short, we need a 2nd car. Returning the D to service is about the same price as a decent used car or even fixing up a basket case from a beater dealership. Given the shocking price of K-Jetronic now, I could sell off both engines and a full swap would probably be about the same cost give or take. The most important things though such as the engine controls for a couple of engines I'm looking at have already been sorted out, but that's discussion for the Custom/Mods section... In any case I don't want to cut into the rear section of the chassis to compromise the safety, so I'm looking for some measurements to see where I can go from here.


Measured my dressed engine I have on the floor.

21" deep

Does that measurement include the length of the water pump pulley as well?

Also, any idea on what the total length of the engine compartment is? Thanks again! I'll owe someone a drink!

Yes that included the water pump. The crank pulley was the furthest thing in front. Just an idea but of pricey k kjet parts is the reason to install a different engine.why not just convert the prv to efi? What ever engine you sway in you will very likely have to set up an after market efi set up anyhow.would save you alot of hard work with the swap where there are tons more issues that need engineering to fix.

I'm coming along well with my Lh jetronic 2.2 that came off a 1990 prv'd Volvo 760 and is very tolerate to being transferred to the Dmc prv. I will probably write up a how to on it when completed Just an idea

Well, it's not just the price alone. I got to test drive a GTO/Holden years ago and just loved the power. I was talking with the wife one day and commented how I'd love to own one to go fast in, and she just asked why I couldn't just put another engine into the D. And I had to agree, why not? Even then it's cheaper than buying a second car, and with the component prices, those are getting pretty up there. Especially when I could get a complete long block Ford 4.6 and an MSD engine controller which easily splices into it's harness to run EFI and Ignition on the thing for about $1K or so. Then it's an adaptor plate and all fabrication after that. Plus since I need to replace the radiator anyway, and still need to buy a few K-Jet tools but could get a welder instead... The prices start becoming quite comparable.

The LH-Jetronic sounds pretty interesting. I'd love to see how that works out. Especially if I could use it with a 3.0L block. If it were easy enough, I'd run it for a while until I had the engine assembled and ready to go.

Be careful which 4.6 you chose. I owned a '98 Mustang about a decade ago which had the 4.6 V8. Some of the later '90s/early '00s 4.6's had issues with the coolant passages cracking on the intake manifold, causing sudden coolant loss. This happened to me when I was on a trip in my Mustang, 40 miles from the nearest town. The heater cores are also known to go out on these. And the spark plugs have a reputation of stripping the cylinder heads. The exhaust manifold gaskets seem to die an early death in these engines as well. So if you do end up deciding on a 4.6, I'd make sure to have these issues checked & resolved before you shoehorn the engine into the tight DeLorean compartment.

Thanks for the heads-up. The build I was looking at was an aluminum TEKSID with PI Romeo Heads, and a MSD Mod-6 to bring it all together. The only concern so far has been the oil sump arrangement.

If that didn't work it would be off to the 302 with a low-profile water pump, and Kaase P-31 heads feed by an MSD Atomic TBI system since it has it's sump up front.
