How far forward can you move the transmission to accommodate an Engine Swap?

Manual or Automatic? The autos already put quite a bend in the CV axles. As far as the front of the tranny hitting the frame, I think it is only a couple of inches.

Manual transmission. I'm curious to see just how much clearance I can get in the engine compartment.

I pushed 2", the supra engine is pushed 4". The supra engine has longer axles though. I essentially put the manual where the automatic sits; that way I could still use standard axles.

Good to know. Thank you for the info. I'd like to do an engine swap, but I don't want to cut into the rear crossmember behind the bumper for safety reasons. So I'm trying to see how far forward I can slide the tranny to make as much space as possible to cram an engine into place.

With both swaps, what tranny mounts were used/fabricated from? And on the 4" move, aside from where the axles were sourced from, how stressful is that angle on the CV joints?

From what i read those custom cv axles were built to handle 1000hp and alot more offset with out binding. My big concern about pushing the Trans forward is how do you even get to the shifter gate control cable? It is hard enough to adjust with the stock amount of space, anyone have a good under car shot of the front of the Trans in the supra car?

This so far has been the best I could find:

And idea what those brackets came off of?

The Porsche 915 is shorter. I mounted it so the axles were perfectly aligned. I suppose I could go about 3-4 inches if I had a longer engine. I used the Porsche transmission mount, but I had to make it 2" narrower. I also used the stock frame holes, fabricating triangular mounts to mate the two.

Transmission mounts are custom. Also, I know the car had those CVs at one point, but later he went back to Stock CV joints with a longer shaft between them. Not sure why; maybe they were still a better fit. Only Ed can answer that.

I pushed my transmission just over 3". I can double check the exact length when I get home. So far everything seems happy.
I cut the standard gearbox mounts in half and just modified them to suit the new position of the gearbox. The frame was modified slightly to allow this to happen and I also opened up above the gear linkage hole so the cross gate cable bracket wouldn't hit the frame.

Here is the basic idea (before it was cleaned up)

That is a thing of beauty! How difficult was it matching the DeLorean shift linkage and cable to the Porsche unit?

Niiice! What modifications did you have to perform to the chassis?

No real mods apart from a few trims for the gearbox and the engine mounts themselves.

I didn't. I used the porsche shifter and rod. The 915 uses a simple shaft that rotates and goes forward/back. I needed to cut a few inches out of it, but it wasn't bad. I have some good pics I will dig up.
