Squeaking steering wheel

Tonight my DeLorean's steering wheel decided to start making an unpleasant squeaking noise whenever I would turn the wheel to the right.

In motion or standing still doesn't matter. The noise is coming from inside the car, not outside. Only to the right, not to the left.

I tried spraying a little multi-purpose in the area where the back of the wheel/front of the plastic clam is. Did noting.

Have you changed the column bushing yet or spray lubed the U-joints?

A New lower bushing fixed my squeak many years back. The old bushing had worn through and was rubbing against the hole in the bulkhead.

I'll get my head in the foot-well and inspect tomorrow. As far as I'm aware, the car is on its original bushing, so it is just a matter of time for it to fall apart.

And just FYI, I replaced mine with DMCH's. Great product, but it DID squeak for a long, long time bcause the bearing was "breaking in." I just turned the radio up to ignore the noise. Put some white lithium grease on and all around the bearing before putting it in place, or you might get to deal with the squeaking like I did.

Wasn't the bushing at all. With some careful listening around, I found that the noise was coming from inside of the cage towards the top of the column. A few sprays of multi-purpose lubricant and it is silent again.

Good Job! There are Plastic bushings in that assembly to that can become dry.

Thanks! Didn't know that, but it makes sense. Amazing how sound travels; it really sounded like it was coming from right behind the wheel at first.

I don't have a squeak but I do have a moan from something rubbing (and yes, it sounds like it comes from right behind the sterring wheel) . The funny thing is that I get reminded of it every time I drive but once parked I forget all about it.... So I never fix it.

I had that coming from the plastic column surround. I took mine off years ago and never quite got around to fixing the problem or putting it back on. I do get occasional comments about all the wires exposed behind the ignition switch though.
