Not sure what I've got here, but I just picked it up at a flea market. Anyone have any info on it? Lots of nice details, though the tires are Pirelli...

very nice piece, is it from cast iron or something?
I bought one of these a long time ago in the UK.
I would say, made of tin.

I don't think it's metal at all, though it is massively heavy. One of the side mirrors snapped off at some point and you can see it's a resin of some sort.
Any idea who made them and when?

Isn't that one of the pewter models?
Don't recall who made them though.

It totally looks and weighs like pewter. But it feels like painted resin, I think. And the broken mirror gives me a little insight into the material I might not have otherwise.

So it looks sorta like this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007ZYTMHG - but it's more detailed and has a nicer base.

I have never seen that, but to offer some insight:
Resin used for casting models is quite heavy. It's also very hard and brittle. It's possible the model is resin and has just been painted to look like pewter or tin. It's also possible the model is cast metal, but the details such as mirrors and wipers are resin cast and glued on. Either they were painted or dipped to look like metal, or the entire model was after being assembled.
On another note, I have seen cast models like this break, and the "material" they are made of is some kind of composite metal in a slightly porous texture, but it would accept plating. In any event, it's a nice looking piece and could be easily repaired.

Interesting, I didn't realize that's something modelers did. It does feel super heavy for resin, but what do I know. How would I even tell if the main body was metal, outside of a magnet test which it already failed? For what it's worth, the model including base is 8" long and weighs 2.5 lbs.
Still trying to find something online about the origins of this. It's really detailed.

Google "pewter DeLorean " gives:
http://members.chello.cz/bttfdelorean/pewter.htm
Which lists a "pewter 1/24 DeLorean" for $160
But then this one

Shows a fake pewter one but I can't tell if it is the same as yours

Dermot... That's a great find. I'm on my phone right now and didn't see that first link you posted but it 100% looks like that's the one. So I don't have the only one out there (no surprise) but it may actually be pewter with applied resin details like Michael said - which is awesome. I'll see if I can find anything more about it from that link.
Thanks!!
Also, that price made me smile....
