Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
Duty is only required for "foreign" made vehicles at 2.5%. Is there not an age limit like here in Canada where personal vehicles older than 25 yrs are exempt from duty?
Also, if a vehicle originates in the US, is imported to Canada, then BACK to the US, there is a caveat:
A vehicle taken from the United States for non-commercial, private use may be returned duty free by proving to CBP that it was previously owned and registered in the United States. This proof may be a state-issued registration card for the automobile or a bill of sale for the car from a U.S. dealer. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/trade/basic_trade/importing_car.xml
Does this mean:
1. it HAD to be owned by the same american individual, meaning he sold to a Canadian (car exports to Canada) and then bought it back (car re-imported to the states)?
OR
2. it does NOT have to be the same american owner and seller?
