Super bouncy wipers

Does anyone else have super squeaky or choppy wiper motion?

I change blades, rainx the glass, clean the blades and whatnot, but the wipers just bounce no matter what, even when the glass is soaked.

Maybe the springs aren't holding them down tight enough? What's the remedy?

Have bosch regular blades.

Wash the rubber part of the wiper blades with Dawn and clean the wax off the glass with Alcohol.

The problem is you replaced the wipers (arms) with what was available and the airflow design that worked with OEM parts is not the same. If you look at the many wiper arms you see different cutout holes and or airfoil shapes. You really need to try different brands (after you do the cleaning already posted) until you find the one that works with your car.

We did not have this problem when all we replaced was the rubber blade which kept the OEM arm.

There is new Bosch ICON wiper that looks promising. There are no cutout holes and a full length airfoil. At WalMart for about $17, same one at autozone is $23.

Several years ago I replaced my wipe blades with some PIAA Silicon's from Tire Rack. A bit pricy but based on the lack of trouble and years of life I have had with them they are well worth it. They look almost identical to the OEM bosh blades.

A couple of points - I used a 24 inch on the driver's side and I got more coverage with no issues - 20 inch on the passenger side. Actually I believe the silicon wipers are in metric so they are shy of the inch measurements by about 1/2 inch.

Also, when I store the DeLorean between uses - I usually drive at least once a month minimum - I use a cut-off from a paint stir-stick laid on edge under the wiper arm to keep the wiper blade off the windshield (a motorhome storage technique).

I can't remember the last time I had a wiper issue. I usually replace the blades every two or three years, I think.

I went ahead and bought the Bosch icons. Problem solved. I just had to get over the fact that they look far from OEM.

The icons have a lower profile that doesn't allow flexing, plus there is even pressure across the blade. Made all the difference. They are also less obstructive to my view.

Is your car daily driven or kept outside for LONG periods? If so the Sun is the main culprit in blade life. On my daily driver which is never garaged I only get a few months out of my wiper blades before they take set and lose the ability to flex back and forth giving a smooth sweep. Once they take permanent set they are done. They will judder skip constantly during the up sweep. I'm sure many can suggest tricks to help extend the life of the blade with varying degrees of success but at the end of the day about all you can do is just replace them with fresh blades. BTW: It is recommended that wiper blades be replaced every 6 months for optimum performance.

As for my Delorean, which lives 98% of it's life in a garage out of the elements, I've managed to get several years out of the replacement NOS blades. Not that I've had to drive in rain all that often. It is a rare event for me but when needed they worked flawlessly. They are also about the best bargain you can get from DMCH (vendors).

Dennis - this is really cool to read actually. I have the same problem with my DD, which was relegated to the driveway when #2100 moved in years ago. It's a nice Acura that never had shuddering blades before, but now it seems like a couple months after I install new ones, they absolutely cannot move smoothly through the upward stroke anymore. Now I know I'm not the only one and will just suck it up :)

I have my Delorean for almost 7 years now and I had this problem since day one. It is not the type of rubber that bounces it is clearly a mechanical type of bouncing.
I will not drive in the rain if I do nothave to , and if I do it is only during a previous planned Deorean event.

But my whiper arms are original, and it also does that when standing stil. Brand new or older rubber, still does that.

I have removed the pastic cap that hides the nut to tighten the arm and added WD-40 in there, including under the dash, all the moving parts I could reach I sprayed with WD-40 and still the arms keep bouncing. (no noise)
I have Rain - X and indeed when appplied that makes it worse.
So I only add Rain x when rain is forcasted when I do on a trip (seldom) so I do not have to use the whipers at all.

So being original arms , fresh blades and standing stil , what could cause this?

One thing I can think of is to ask a fellow delorean ower in the sping if I may try his arm / blades once and see what happens.
