This is the spare tire out of a Delorean.
This particular car only has 1001 miles on it and has always been in a secured environment, this car is celebrity owned.
The wheel has no water marks or stains, has never been used and is in perfect condition.

I convert Deloreans into replicas of the Time Machine from Back to the Future and we remove certain items from the cars such as this.
If you have been looking for the most perfect one of these wheels for your Delorean, this is your chance!!!

Original DeLorean spare tire is good for "show and tell". First time tire is put in service, the side wall will split. Byrne

I didn't know this.

Is this accepted as the gospel truth? I recently realized my spare doesn't hold air and had figured I would take it to get the valve stem replaced or sealing surface cleaned up.

Are you saying they fail/split because of an assumption of age and deterioration of the rubber? Or is there something more to the design or weight or physics behind it?

What do owners do then if they were in a situation to need to put on a spare, but can't? What is that Plan B for these owners?

I don't know if it's absolute, but the odds must be much higher than using the original NCTs as the pressure is higher (60psi?) and it's the same 34 year old rubber.

I recall a couple of threads where folks installed fresh rubber at NTB or soemwhere

My spare has a (date) code on it of '024L'. That's not quite the same theme as my main tires which have a date code of 3806... 38th week of year 06. Anyone know how old 024L is? Or am I looking at the wrong thing?

Is not really that it "will happen" but it might. This is due to age, nothing else.

I think 024 is week 02 1994

Hmmm. Just saw a link the mentions the pre-2000 code explanation. You're probably right about 1994... or worse, 1984. Alhtough it likely isn't 1984 since if it came with one in 1981, you wouldn't think it got replaced three years later.

I guess on a continuing note... can you buy brand new, replacement rubber for these things? We don't have to worry about it being a matching set, like the other four with Cooper or whatever is available now. Anyone bought new spare tire rubber recently and can share what they got and where they got it? The steel looks to be okay from what I can see...

Yes, I think it's readily available at any good tire store. There was a thread about a year ago on it. Think it was $70 or $90.

Mods, could we spin all this OT stuff out of the 4 Sale forum as we are breaking all sorts of rules. :)

A quick search on the phone shows this one at TireRack for $42

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=Spare+Tire+T121&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=17D5KH&tab=Sizes

Not quite the right size but probable close enough

There are other brands listed there that may have an exact match.

No harm done to the O.P. his advertised item sold very quickly. He should start a new thread for the other tire. Usually mods close a for sale thread once item is sold.

The first one did sell, but I relisted another one.
I have several of these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261340469971?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I have seen these spares sell for $500 and once as high as $800.
Most of the one's I have seen for sale looked horrible.
The one's I am listing are perfect looking and I am sure they will work fine.
Afterall, it is just a temporary low speed tire and most likely will never be used.

We discussed a while back the subject of panic braking on the DeLorean. You know, literally slamming on the brakes at speed when you must stop for what is suddenly in front of you. The thought of doing it on a corner was mentioned, and I believe David T. at the time suggested not trying that. For fear of your car's weighting or dynamics putting you in the rhubarb. At this time I brought up a saying we used at the nuclear plant...

How do you know?

The idea is that the only way you find out the answer is you test it. How do you know the pipe wall thickness is okay? How do you know the back-up generators to supply power to the cooling water pumps will work? How do you know what will happen to your car during panic braking through a corner? How do you know whether your spare tire will blow out its sidewall the moment you use it?

You test it.

Yea, I'm not rushing out to do the panic braking test around some fierce corner with a log truck coming either. But I would rather know in advance whether my spare is going to get me home if I have now counted on it and thus I am relying on it. Know on my own time that is too, not when you're stranded on the side of the road and you don't have much of a back-up plan because you had assumed your spare was fine.

I am sure they work fine. Not really, not until you test it you don't know. Spares have limits on the speeds you can drive on them and distances travelled, but they aren't meant to be single serving products you throw out after using them the first time. If your spare is going to disintegrate as soon as you use it, I'd rather find out a few yards down the street in front of my neighbors house instead of out on some highway somewhere.

Not saying there isn't a practical side to much of this and there aren't plenty of examples where we just make up a plan as we go after our initial idea didn't work. Like a friend said to me years ago, if you tell me there is a water jug out on the 6th tee on the local golf course, yet when you get there it is empty, you'd have much rather just made your own preparations for taking a bottle of water out with you instead of realizing the one you counted on isn't actually what it was supposed to be and now you're thirsty and pissed off and the beer cart is nowhere in sight.

Just another one of those things in life where a surprise is ok on Christmas morning, but not with your DeLorean.

I got a fresh new perfect fitting spare tire. Paid 80€ installed.
It comes from the Chevrolet Lumina and the tire was manufactured 4 years ago which I think is fresh to be reliable.
Perfect fit on the wheel and in the bonnet.

I think the customer for my spare would be someone who doesn't have one in their Delorean, or the one they have is used or in bad shape, and they are looking for one for display and collectable purposes.
I have several available.

Jan, can you please post the exact year ( or year range if you know it ) of the Chevrolet Lumina spare tire "donut"? This is perfect for the crossover parts list.
Awesome!

If you want a really fresh spare tire you can order a brand new Kuhmo T125/70D15 from Discount Tire that works just fine on an OEM wheel. I have a couple in stock but shipping tires may not make much sense if you can still get one from Discount.
