View Full Version : DeLorean involved in *Hit and Run* in Tuscaloosa, Al.

I had a visit from a Tuscaloosa police officer today at work.
He started out asking my name and then asked if I owned a DeLorean. I said yes.
He asked me where it was. I explained that although I drive it most days, I didn't today because the weather has been very cold and wet and I don't want to hurt it.
He then asked if I had noticed any damage to it recently. I told him No.

After a few more minutes of strange questions, (By this point I was thinking my car had been stolen today and wrecked), he finally told me that a DeLorean had been involved in a Hit and Run wreck, (The D being the one that ran), on a local street on Nov 14.
Something to do with the D avoiding a log truck, then hitting a bus. Witnesses say the D's front end lost Big Time to the bus but was able to leave the scene.

I was interviewed because I'm the only registered DeLorean owner in Tuscaloosa county.

The officer was Very nice, and took my co-workers word that my car wasn't hurt or involved as they'd seen it since Nov. 14 Not in any Wrecked condition...
This has me, (And the local police), wondering. Who's the owner? Where did the Mystery D come from? Why did he Run?

There's a story here somewhere, Just wondering if anybody here has a clue?

George

Very interesting indeed. I can't imagine anyone in a DeLorean actually thinking they can get away with something lime this? I can only assume the owner is feverishly working on replacing panels and a front fascia at this very moment. Anyone had any recent requests for front end panels?

Haven't heard anything, but I am looking for a new front fascia, front QPs, hood, and radiator. Anybody know of any cheap? :neener:

My guess is that this is exactly how the police will find the person involved in the hit and run. No doubt the guy will be making calls to a vendor at some point looking for parts. Now that this is public I'd expect some moral obligation to turn the guy in.

If the guy doesn't want to get caught he'd have to buy a right fender from vendor A, a hood from private party B, and a fascia from vendor C, etc.

Just dawned on me that the eye-witnesses probably saw a silver Fiat x1/9 or something and just called it a D by mistake.

If this is true, and is a DeLorean, my guess is that it won't be turned in on insurance (he probably either didn't have insurance and/or a drivers license) and the guy will be buying the parts on the cheap. eBay, forums, etc.

I asked the officer the same thing. He's open to that line but, has to check out what the witnesses said first.

Funny thing, it happened on a road that I travel on a Lot. :nervous: :D

Or maybe a Saturn with Delorean wheels?

Haha.

I do love the Tuscaloosa PD getting all NCIS on the case

Even if I knew who it was, and as long as nobody was hurt in the hit and run I wouldn't turn in a fellow D owner. That's just me. And no my car is not damaged.

Not turning them in is punishable by prison time. Just sayin.

(Playing the "what-if" game) I think if this were the case, you'd be legally obligated to report the information; however, not necessarily likely to be caught if you didn't.

It's all about doing the right thing. Hit-and-runs are cowardly, immature, sorry-ass acts towards other members of society regardless of what car you're driving. And if/when you get caught, it's usually much worse than if you'd just owned-up to your actions at the scene.

Quite possibly the stupidest, most arrogant comment of the year. Maybe when someone destroys YOUR property and runs away you will think differently about your fellow "brothers"

Just because someone owns a car like mine does not automatically make them immune to something I find reprehensible.

This reminds me of Troy McClure's DeLorean hit and run on "The Simpsons!"

I think it can be found on youtube....

I don't see the arrogance in the comment. And yes I have been a victim of more than one hit and run. Why your so emotional about this is beyond me.

I'm not anywhere near emotional, and of course you don't see the arrogance of your comment...because you are arrogant!

Just because you have been a victim in the past doesn't have any bearing on you helping to "cover up" hit and run based solely on the fact that you like the car he/she is driving. Whoever is driving that car is a dirtbag.

Let me tell you something else, I was a victim of a hit and run too. My feelings about people who leave the scene were the same before the accident as they are after. I was on my motorcycle about 12-13 years ago and I was at a red light being directed by a cop to stop for an accident. A guy rear ended me and the only reason didn't go down was I always check my mirrors when I come to a stop, and I was able to release the brake just in time. He busted up my bike's tag bracket, fender and bent a wheel. The guy took off right there, and I never saw him again. This POS in the DeLorean is NO DIFFERENT, he is a douchebag, and anyone that covers up for him simply because he drives a freaking DeLorean is the same.

Like I said if a person is involved it's something different but if it's just property then it's something else. Seeing as we most likely know the D driver (assuming it's not stolen) I wouldn't report him. As far as arrogant, I've never been accused of that before, at least not to my face. Now if this taints your view of me, someone you have never met, life's too short, and I have enough friends.

Jimmy be trollin. There is no way someone could say with a straight face that "we know" someone cause they may have posted on this site. And because someone posted on this site, in your eyes they are cool?

I'm just curious for you where the line would be drawn? If a D owner murdered someone would you turn them in? What if a D owner was planning a terrorist attack? I mean you know them so you gotta stay cool with em right? Lol trollin like mad. Good work Jimmy.

This will be my last comment on this subject because some of you righteous people keeping missing the one important point:

If there is a human injured or an animal I would report it, but if it was just property damage I would not. Most people on this site are pretty cool with the exception of some.

I gotcha. If someone blew up a building (who owned a Delorean) but it didn't kill anyone or any animal they are cool with you. Makes perfect sense. :screwy:

And we are to infer that folks like me are not cool because I feel that committing criminal acts that hurt others (financially) are wrong whether that person owns a shitty Delorean or not?

I'm not missing the point, I understand you completely. I guess if you saw a vandal torch someone's home you would say tight lipped about that...as long as he was driving a DeLorean, property damage is just fine.

That's some really fooked up logic you got there kid.

I got it! What if someone smashed into your DeLorean and drove off...and he was also driving a DeLorean?

Great Scott!!! That could create a paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's a worst-case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localised, limited to merely our own galaxy.

Nope. That was hit on the left side in California. Not a California plate on the front.

I can imagine potential spectators to the hit and run had very Family Guy'esque commentary:

"Look, DeLorean is getting away very slowly! Somebody walk after him! It's listing lazily to the left hand turn lane!"

I'm still trying to get more info on what Really happened. (Had my D in it's first car show today and asked around).
