I ran across this on Tumblr. As far as gullwing conversions go it's not bad. Looks to be a center latching system. I couldn't find any other photos to get a better look. That might just be a good angle for it. I did get a translated excerpt on the car from here: http://minkara.carview.co.jp/en/userid/265436/car/158697/3740354/photo.aspx

Mitsubishi Eclipse on the left handle is (first generation), but genuine gull-wing specification of Mitsubishi genuine amazing.
And with a bonus of "electric"!
It is one hyper rare machine of 12-limited in all the world.
By the way, I do not have outside door knob.
Things and how they work by turning the key cylinder by interpolating the key.
Nantes there is no door knob, (laughs) what it would be machine cyber and I was allowed to sit on (the driver's seat as referred to Japanese car) front passenger seat at the courtesy of the owner's here, or closed side is open or electric The impact was enough to associate the seat of the roller coaster to see you to (laughs). Gorilla specification Stallion with a similar mechanism has been sold in five limited, but it is appropriate to single reminiscent of it. By the way, was that of the 6 million yen in Japanese yen over new car prices (^ ^ ;)

Those first gen eclipses had those power seat belts that ran across the top of the door, so all that had to be removed and re-engineered.

...but at the end of the day, it's still a Mitsubishi Eclipse. ;) Very well done modification though.

Thanks for that photo and translation.

Taking a close look at the photo for door lift details reveals two lift-related elements. Assuming there is no torsion bar assist it looks as if the rear lift element is fairly thick and could be a hydraulic or compressed air cylinder device to perform the main lift and, probably, closing force via a remote. The front element looks similar to the lift struts found on DeLoreans, perhaps used in this Mitsu only for dampening. That rear lift cylinder looks like it sits in a slot that was cut into the roof? Noticing also that the shiny part of that lift is fairly long. Looking at its pivot points suggests that with the doors closed there are lift cylinders crowding into the cabin, sort of like roll bar tubes behind the seats when the doors are closed. Hmmm.

... wonder what they did to the door windows?

That's a damn nice looking 1G! Don't be so quick to dismiss those first gen turbos though. That 4G63 engine is bulletproof and the first gen cars were still using the 6 bolt engine which is a tuner's delight. The bottom end can easily handle 400hp in stock form. They can be made very quick with next to no effort or money...put a little money in one, (not an expression) a little money and you will dust off C-5's. I still have videos of mine at the track eating domestic muscle as well as modern WRX's and EVO's.

I thought it was just another "gullwing wannabe" but I realized that a wonderful job has been done on that car!

But I don't really like the car anyway.

Nice!

Patiently waiting for someone to convert DeLorean doors into 'standard opening' doors. :smashfreak:

I know Rich W was working on a roadster (or was it convertible?) DeLorean with scissor doors.
