I currently have a fender mounted antenna that's in rough shape and has seen better days. I really like the idea of upgrading to the automatic antenna. I see there is a kit that appears to include a mounting bracket. I realize I'll have a hole in the fender to deal with, but besides that, I am wondering if anyone that has done this can tell me more about the process? For instance, does the rear QP have to come off? How difficult is the routing of the new antenna cable to the radio?

Mine had the Automatic Antenna when I purchased, so I didn't have to route the wires through... but my antenna did break and I had to remove the old unit and fit a new one. You can do most of the work through the charcoal cannister hatch if you've got steady hands and patience :) HOpefully someone else can advise on the wire routing!

The wires run under the console. You can buy a cap for the hole in the fender or you can have it welded so you can't tell. The kit should also have a template to cut the fins in the grill for the antennae mast to go through. It is a bit of work but IMHO it is worth it.

There is a description here in the forum:

And searching the internet gives more descriptions, like this one:

This is the "kit" http://store.delorean.com/p-7255-kit-automatic-antenna.aspx

It has the power antenna, an antenna wire, and what looks to be the mounting bracket. Everything you would need for a new installation if there wasn't one previously. Maybe a DMC person can confirm that?

This is a complete Upgrade kit. Everything you need to install it is there. Including the antenna co-ax extension cable that runs under the console.

Thanks Dennis, looks like this project will make the "To-Do" list...

Just finished replacing the Legend LN46 antenna which failed last week. Selected an antenna from Autozone for $69.99...it's the Metra 22 model. Everything lined up well and the wiring was a direct swap for the Legend antenna. I attached the base with a single nut supplied with the kit. The action is much smoother than the Legend and it has a built in sensor to protect the motor; it detects if the mast is blocked and can't be raised. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/a7e3useb.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/7u5y9e9y.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/u4edunu4.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/a6e9ezem.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/rebemeju.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/y6utebuq.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/hu4a7uze.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/31/qy5azu4a.jpg
