Hey everyone, Merry Xmas eve. So I have my center console and dash apart as I am redoing the audio system, while I know quite a bit about that, I know next to nothing about HVAC. After I took the radio out, I noticed this thing, I have no clue what it is or does, only that when the car is running it sucks air. Did I knock it loose and it is supposed to plug in to something?

Thanks!

Looks like the back of the mode switch, the thing that controls the AC, heater, vents, etc.

Vacuum Port Connector for the mode switch. I also see in the background that the Factory Radio harness is disconnected. It's the 9-way (white connector).

Thanks guys, I don't suppose anyone has a pic or schematic of where it's supposed to go? And yes the factory radio plug is disconnected and will stay that way, I T-tapped off the wires I needed to the harness for the new aftermarket radio and will tape the plug up and hide it.

It pushes onto the back of the air-circulation dial - it only fits at one precise angle so you'll have to reach in and blindly rotate it until it pushes onto the dial.

See it in the centre of the photo, set back a bit? Black hoses with orange on a couple of them?
Not the best picture, but only one I could find.
Merry Ho Ho :)

Thanks Jonathan, that actually is helpful! And thanks to this wonderful time of year, I will have some extra days to fix it and start making some headway with the install

Once you reassemble the switch, if it is hard to turn you should disassemble the vacuum part and rebuild it.

Console clock. Unused on 83's It makes wonder if the factory left the clock wiring in all the 82's that did not have console clocks.
