View Full Version : General Close Call - Stang vs. D

Crazy girl in a Stang almost ran into my car as she was driving on wrong side of road in the employee parking lot. I guess she was late for work or just arrived from England. They need to do something about this parking lot. It's an obstacle course and a few accidents have already occurred.

Good thing you both put on the brakes quickly, not a lot of time to react. She came out of nowhere. Glad you got those new brake lines installed!

Yikes. Glad there was no collision Ryan.

From what I see in the video or even every day out on the street, it's just about being lazy (and selfish too no doubt). It takes a little extra effort to stay to the right side of the lane or corner or intersection, but cutting the corner is easier. Add to that how most of the population no longer is concerned with the well being of others, and it wouldn't even cross her mind to be courteous. You can see it in public intersections too where you come up to a stop sign and should be able to turn right, but the guy coming from where you're going and is turning left is cutting the corner like he's playing Gran Turismo or something. Slow down, stay on your own side of the road or intersection and both of us can turn at the same time. But people would need to actually slow down in life and not be in such a rush or panic or hurry... and, think of anyone other than themselves.

The solution for this could be your company changing the parking lot, but the real solution is for people to want to slow down and follow the rules. John Adams quote from 200 years ago said a lot of this sort of thing with rules or governing is only going to work if it is mostly self governing, i.e. people want to follow the rules. That idea is out the window now unfortunately because most people want to do whatever they please and you sure as sh!t can't convince them otherwise.

Close call indeed. I am always concious about how the D's small frontal area and color tend to blend with the background, making it hard for other motorists to see us.... (but once they see you it is the opposite!:)

After that she probably texted, tweeted, facebooked & instagrammed: "Some guy in a Back to the Future car almost hit me!"

At least we have basic Rules to the road to follow in the US. (If only suggestions for some people) There seem to plenty countries in the world where driving is free for all and everyone is only interested in themselves. INDIA is one of the worst. There are no rules to the Road to speak of.

The other bad thing about parking lot driving in a D is that the car is of such low profile you can't see around other parked vehicles (obstacles) which seem to be more and more SUV's and Pickups these days. The other guy can't see you coming either. I had a close like that at work parking lot about a month ago. Obstructed view at crossing intersection in my DD. Good thing for BRAKES and I Creep through the driveway to begin with at those intersections just for that reason.

Parking lots are dangerous places for our little cars. We are ants compared to the giants that occupy that space.

Never have I seen people risk so much to gain so little as on the road. It's almost unbelievable just how stupid we have become to think that your life, (and to a greater extent, my life) is worth you getting to the next red light 45 seconds before I do.

Ah yes the the great traffic flow equalizer (hurry up and Stop) while I roll up from behind and if lucky the turns before I get there and don't have too  Yeah I'm getting OLD

The other driver appears the fail the "turn left, but stay right" aptitude test. When I lived in WA, there where "traffic bumps" on the center-line of the road; dome-shaped speed-bump things that corral the sheep nicely, and keep them on the proper side of the road.

Almost looks like a russian dash cam video. Good evidence if she did hit you.

It's the best money you can spend for a truly un-biased eye witness. Here is the one I got new for 36 bucks, shipping included. It records to a SD card(not included), but the good part is it loops the footage, so no need to go back and erase every time. I get about an hour on my 8GB card at medium res with good frame rate:

Yeah.... Good thing that she didn't hit me. Otherwise, you would see me coming out of my car and start doing Russian traffic video:boxface::boxface: POW POW!!!" OK it's a joke.

Micheal,

I see you have the DMCH (Cibie') performance headlights. I'd recognized that Light Pattern on Garage door anywhere.

Michael,

I was going to ask you on the Dash Cam thread if you still like the one you bought off EBay now that you've had it awhile. Nashville driving is getting crazier by the day and I'd like to get one. Are still sold on it? Are there similar ones on EBay now?

Agreed, this is more and more frightening - share the details on your cam, if you can Michael?

Ryan - you're a disaster magnet! What is it about you?? :) How's the Lotus?

Sorry, I thought I responded but obviously I didn't.

I love my cheap little dash cam. If I drove more often or as a profession, of course I would opt for something more expensive, but for the money this thing just can't be beat. The thing is I bought mine about 6 months ago, and in that time the technology has both changed and become cheaper so I probably would not buy the exact camera again. I can report the battery is junk, it lasted about 45 min. on a charge when new but now I'm lucky to get 20 min. That wasn't too important as I always use the included adapter. I'm sure all cheap cams cut corners like that. If you check out youtube, there are all kinds of cheap dash cams out there being reviewed. I like mine because the lens swings 180 degrees, so if I get pulled over, I can catch the interaction, which is important to me but I saw one though that was extremely small and mine does take up some windshield real estate. I guess the most important thing is you have one. It doesn't have to be pricey. Like photographers say, the most valuable camera you have is the one you have with you.

Jon, it's not me. Crazy drivers are trying to run me off the road. :rollin: Lotus is sitting safely in garage. I just took it out for a drive, first time in over a week. Still runs great. :driving1:

I agree that it's a valuable tool. Especially when other driver refuses take any responsibilities for an accident, which happened to me several times. My cam is very compact and sits behind the mirror. Hidden from thieves. It runs continuously using car battery. It holds about 48 hours of videos. I can view recorded videos and live videos through my iPhone wirelessly. Also I can upload video files to YouTube directly from iPhone. Mine wasn't cheap but it's cheaper than my insurance deductible.
