Stealing an idea from Jalopnik yesterday, post your coldest ambient temperature of the past couple of days - photo proof only, preferably your cars temp gauge

For me, it was +7F this morning (Schools closed as it is too cold to wait for the bus, apparently)

Haha, I'll play. Although I will need to get back to you on the outside temp gauge from the car as there is a wee bit of snowblowing to do before I could go anywhere. Oh, and they would need to reopen the highways also as everything in the ENTIRE county is now closed, i.e. no insurance/illegal for you to be out driving in it or past a barrier. Looks like another indoor day of activities to me!!

And for anyone keeping score at home, that image from the Weather Network warnings page that mentions a wind chill of as low as -40 degrees... -40 is where Celsius meets Farenheit. -40 C = -40 F... which also equals FRIGGIN' COLD!!!! I'm not exaggerating by saying that if I were to decide to walk down the street to get my mail (which would be pointless because it wouldn't have been delivered) I would be putting my life in jeopardy.

I'll see about taking some pictures from my front windows but it might not turn out well because I can't see the neighbor's house on the other side of the street!!

In the past few weeks we've been seeing double digit temps below zero. I start my commute in the morning at around 6:00 so it's usually about as cold as it's going to get just prior to sunrise.

I didn't take any pics in the past few days but yesterday it was -26F and today it was -22F. With the 25mph winds we've been seeing that puts the wind chill at -60F

Here's a photo from about a week ago when it was -13.

So me in Atlanta is about the same air temperature as Jonathan in Ontario. Awesome. Wind chill this morning was about -7F (-21C)

But it's bright and sunny and I'm sitting in work.

Car sat out all night and started right up and drove here without any problems (a little harsh on the suspension, and the TPMS doesn't like the cold air). Pretty impressive that we just take that as granted.

I don't have photo evidence, but last Friday the wind chill was around -40 F.

Working at a school district, I get the days off when the governor of the state calls off school due to the cold. That was yesterday, and today the district itself called it off. We don't cancel school for 7º weather, but we do for -20º with -60º wind chills. Though I do understand those in Atlanta probably dont have as warm of winter gear as we do in MN.

Taken after arriving at work yesterday morning, to work an 11am - 7pm shift.

It seemed much colder earlier in the morning (about -18 degrees) and 25 mph winds (wind chill about -50).

On sunday it got as cold as it has been all winter. -30C on the thermometer and -53C with the wind chill. Its been hovering around-25C without the windchill since the start of december.

Just a fun fact for the Yankees: -53C = -63F

I saw -19F on my car thermometer yesterday but I wouldn't take my gloves off to operate a camera.

The problem in the south is that they don't anticipate extended freezing, and do things like installing water plumbing in exterior walls of houses and heating with a heat pump. Neither is a good idea at 0F. . .

It's warmed up to +1 here today.

I lucked out yesterday it was 11 deg above zero in the morning and got up to 19 in the afternoon. My heat pumps still worked with those temps but I did see the upstairs add AUX heat a few times. My being surrounded by water (Patuxent river and Potomac river) tend to reduce extreme air temps.

With an expected high near 42 degrees today (Friday), that's a 60 degree difference from this Monday when we hit -18 degrees.

Those who live in the Midwest or drive through the Midwest in Winter know what it means ... a "bumper crop" of huge pot-holes.

A few other added bonuses include "Ice Fog" this morning and at least a half dozen busted water mains in the Chicago area so far.

Rain expected this afternoon and evening, so with frozen ground and ice already covering most street drains, flooding is expected.

Highs in the single digits to mid-teens during the day and overnight lows approaching -20F for the next 10+ days :mad1:

Friday looks like it will be the worst, with wind gusts predicted at 30+mph. I can handle just cold, but cold + brisk wind pisses me off!

Currently -3F with no wind.

On the bright side, I just stocked up with another 2 full cords (6 face) of firewood to keep the house a toasty 72F during the entire spell

Not the same one, no. The one I have now is like a DeLorean (in about only one way!) - it stays indoors for the winter.

+12F this morning again in ATL. Didn't close the schools though, this time.

Yes, yes, I know it's not a negative, but it's still abnormal for down here.

While it's not as cold here in Alabama as other parts of the country, we did get some snow and ice today the like of which we haven't had in a long while.
I opted to leave work at noon due to the forecast. It took me 2 hours to drive home, (The same trip that normally takes 11-13 minutes).

Ditto

60F yesterday, bright and sunny. 25F and snowing at lunchtime today. Office closed at lunchtime as did every school and federal building. People taking 4 hours for a 9 mile trip because of traffic. I think every car in the city was on the road at the same time.

Amount of snow expected: 1-2 inches.

School is closed for tomorrow already. Because. SNOW.

I think there are a total of 9 snow plows in the entire state!

State of emergency has been officially called. Schools are closed tomorrow already. Some kids are in danger of having to sleep at some schools tonight because they can't get home. Really.

The last time this happened, we were off for a week. :)

5 hours of snow, maybe 2 inches. Complete disaster.
