I wanted to thank everyone on the forum that has been real helpful with guidance and advice on how to buy a Delorean. There is a steep learning curve to figuring out what a good car is. The car I purchased has a lot of the major things done to it already. It still needs some things but will do over time. And.. just my luck. No more than 30 min after I loaded the car on my trailer, it rained the whole way home :(
What the car has:
Everything was done at DMC midwest 11/12 400 miles ago.
Stage II motor with exhaust completed
New seat covers and carpet done last year
New fuel pump/fuel accumlator/ rebuilt fuel distributor / integrated pump with sender / flushed tank
new breaks calipers, ss lines and rotors
new clutch and clutch ss hose and slave cylinder
prem relay kit
Powder coated wheels and new tires
all the grounds have been gone thru
140 amp alternator
new shift bushings
New radiator
LED door lights
eyebrows removed and new hood latches installed.
new window motors r and L
there is a lot more.
What the car needs:
Front and rear fascias need to be refinished.
Head liner is faded and needs to be replaced
steering wheel and center cover need to be replaced
the trip reset is broken (will add the 140 speedo)
both doors leak, I have to find and replace seals
car has a slight pull to the right. (will have aligned)
engine cover is cracked
engine bay needs to be painted on the firewalls.
Will keep everyone posted on the progress. I am so happy to be a part of this community and again thanks everyone!

Congrats and welcome. Now you just have to move the corvette out of the garage so the D has room.

You definitely need to get in touch with the Long Island Group by contacting Tom (tommyrich). These guys are the best and meet often. They will also be attending DCS this year so there may be an opportunity to follow them to Ohio.

Old thread, yes.
This car has sold in 2012, 2014, 2016, and now it's for sale again in what will be 2018. It has moved from Ohio, Missouri, New York, and now Georgia. Other than having my least favorite hood the car checks off every single item I wanted from a car and much of the things I planned to do once I made a purchase. Was thinking of making an offer and trying to pick it up in early January but that string of ownership is really curious.
I guess I don't really have a question, just scratching my head here. It's one of 2-3 cars on the list of cars I would consider buying before spring semester starts and I'm trapped till May.

Some people buy them to strike it off a list; others buy one and are disappointed by the dynamics of the car; others, it turns out, don't like the attention.
Take a trip and drive it, if you are unsure. It's cheap insurance

Me, personally, I think it is less about the car's specifics and more about whether the new owner understands what the hobby is all about. Sure, there are some cars out there with serious issues, obvious ones or hidden, yet guys have lost interest in the hobby with cars that were in great shape as much as with those that were basket cases.
Years ago, I was talking about my to-do list and things I was working on with the car and a friend piped up and asked "aren't you done yet?" I don't remember how I answered because I probably didn't understand the hobby back then either.
Understanding that having one of these cars as a hobby means that your to-do list will never be "done." That's not a good thing nor a bad thing, it just is.

Not everyone is cut out to own and drive a DeLorean long term. People are under the assumption that it takes money...that's not exactly the case. These cars require something more valuable than mere money.

That's kind of what I was thinking too, and aligns with what I expect DMC ownership to be so that's reassuring. When I find videos of people on Youtube that own DMCs but don't seem to know anything about them I'm always surprised. Same thing when I read a sellers ad with blatantly wrong information. I've been reading about DMCs for twenty years now and while I don't expect every buyer to have that same appetite for pre-purchase knowledge the lack of understanding from some owners/sellers is surprising.
To me the outlying behavior here is this particular car had a string of owners with the same ownership profile. If you go back to the beginning of this thread the owner seemed super stoked to have the car and then 10 posts later he's gone from the community. A couple of those owners did have loans on the car so maybe they cost of the loan overcame the level of enjoyment of the car. No idea.
The car looks great, I can't think of a single problem it might have that would be both hidden sight but worth dumping once found. We'll see, maybe.

FWIW,
I have seen this car and met the owner back when he first bought it (when it was on Long Island). He was very meticulous and took a car that was already pretty nice and made it nearly perfect. If I were to guess why he sold it, it was simply because he was a Corvette Tuner and came to realize that Deloreans and Corvettes are much different.

Thanks. Hoping my birthday and Christmas will help this coming week fly by. Plane tickets are purchased, everything is set. Just waiting and watching the weather as there may or may not be a snow event between here and Georgia over New Years.
I'll make a new thread for 10439 when I get settled. I want to comb through the paperwork and receipts and make a conclusive enumeration of the cars exact posture. The prior owners have been helpful but there is nothing like having your own eyes on the car and docs.
