Last night I took my car off the trailer and borrowed my wife's spot in the garage for the next two weeks. I gave her fair and adequate notice to mentally prepare her, so I called her while she was on her way home - after I got the car in the garage -lol. The weather forecast was good, no snow predicted for the next few days so I figured I could ease her nicely into the new arrangement.

This morning I wake up to this:

That is a tough one! I had a single car garage and was living in Minnesota when I first bought my DeLorean. Had to work out the parking arrangement in advance with my wife to make sure we were aligned on priorities. Somehow though priorities shifted, no doubt related to her having to scrape ice and snow off her car, and we bought a larger house with a 3 car garage within a year.

Just be prepared. Whatever anyone says about other DeLorean costs, this is probably the most expensive problem you can ever have with a DeLorean.

I hope you cleaned her car off for her! One possibility could be a temporary shelter for the car if it is allowed in your driveway. Figure this is going to also cost you a trip to her favorite jeweler. Maybe a remote starter too so she can warm the car up before she gets in it.

Ahhh, and Rich has encountered his first "cost" of DeLorean ownership that has nothing to do with the amount on your parts invoice. Good luck! (and cleaning her car off for her sounds like a good idea to me too!)

She has a remote starter, but I started it for her anyway & also cleaned it off. :thumbup:

Happy wife = happy life. When I bought my car I told her that it is her's. She made me buy an automatic because she doesn't drive stick! Good thing she never asked to see the Title! Get her to help you with the Delorean. Maybe you can get her to vacuum it or wipe it a little so she has some ownership of it too. The she will understand why you had to get it into the garage.

PS - biggest sales job I've ever done was getting Julee to sign off on the garage addition 12 years ago. I think it cost me a kitchen somewhere along the line though.

I can attest to this. Dave's garage is like the batcave with like secret extra areas that keep going and going. I think there is more space to park cars in that garage than there is under Cheyenne mountain :)

Rich one thing you can consider is your backyard. Are you able to drive the car into the backyard, and if so you can set up a carport in there, or build a shed. My solution to this problem is this summer I am punching a hole in the back wall of my house so I can drive a car from my garage directly into the backyard.

I like that idea. I posted this thread sarcastically, but actually getting some legit responses....I didn't see that coming!

I have a septic system in my backyard directly behind the garage, so my options are limited. I thought of adding onto the side of the garage and having an overhead door in the front and back to be able to do as you described.

I have a friend with a self-storage business a few miles away, that will probably be the short-term solution.

I was able to increase my garage space with a car lift. It also has the added bonus of being useful to work under the car. It does require a high ceiling in the garage though.

That's actually my goal but I am spreading the work and expense out over several summers.
