View Full Version : Heat & A/C Disgruntled employee?

Not long after I got my car in Nov. '06, it went to DMCH for A/C repairs (evap, heater core and orifice tube replaced) and for a rear quarter panel replacement when some idiot backed into me. I don't recall if this was all done in one visit or if it was two separate ones. The service manager at the time was a guy named Rick and my car had some "issues" while it was in the shop. I understand after the fact that the mechanic they had a the time was fired after working on my car. My spare tire cover board disappeared, but the big one was when the guy put a screw through my rear fascia to get it to align properly. Rick blew a gasket and got me a new fascia. Mounting the new fender they managed to scratch the glass and had to replace it. Several other minor things. Stephen Wynn even came down to help out with the power antennae that the guy couldn't get right. I though this chapter was behind me.....and have never mentioned it before.

Today, with my dash all ripped apart to do some rewiring, install Bitsyncmaster's light panel and some other little things, I decided to see why my windshield defroster didn't work. I've never needed it to be honest (Houston) since I don't drive it in the little bit of cold weather we get. I only noticed a short while ago that it didn't blow. So I figure I'll see if my flapper doors need foam (they do) and I take off the distribution casing of the air duct system. I notice the 4" hose that comes off the top/backside isn't even connected! Upon closer examination of the hose itself, it has been stuffed with that black tar paper stuff they wrap around the evaporator pipes. Not just a random strip, a big solid plug made very carefully! I asked Dave S. if perhaps this could have been some kind of "quick fix" for something and couldn't rationalize that. My damper doors and actuators all work, so it's not like this was some kind of fix to redirect air. What a PITA. I'm surmising a disgruntled employee heading out the door.

Tomorrow's job is going to involve refitting the boxes and using aluminum tape to seal up some gaps between the defroster channel and the plastic piece that the now clear hose fits onto. Then back to my other efforts.

How's that for a kick in the ass huh?

I've had my DeLorean for 32 years and just recently, while working under the dash, discovered that short defroster pipe was never connected on my car from day one. It was close enough that air did get trough to defrost a bit but apparently whoever had the job of installing these missed a few.

Although I don't think the bad employee sabotaged your car, it was an interesting story and it was refreshingly good to hear how the shop manager and Mr. Wynne himself stepped up to take care of it.

So did you get the faceplate lit up yet? How do you like it?

Yup, I would have to agree that looks pretty intentional.
