Alternator not charging car shuts off after about 5minutes. I charged up the battery after that it's 12.66v now.
Just wanted to know where to troubleshoot since its so cold out now. Last time it ran it with no issues was about 1 month ago then I started it yesterday and now this problem, any help would be appreciated.
Also wit the car running if I disconnect the battery via a cut off swicth the car dies immediately. No Battery is on when the car is running and the voltmeter says less than 12v on the dash?
Thanks in advance.

Not a good idea to cut off the battery with a running car. If the alternator is working you could blow out a lot of electronics. You should be getting 14.5 volts or greater when the weather is cold (alternator is cold) with the engine running. Most likely the alternator is bad.

I know I realized that as soon as I hit the swicth
What could I check for, to be sure it's not working, unfortunately my garage isn't heated so I would have to work fast?

Correction the battery light is NOT lit on the dash
Also does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on where to look to fix this besides the bulb of coarse.
Thanks

Changing that bulb with another incandescent bulb will make a HUGE difference. Check the socket the bulb is in also.
