Testing for leaks

I'm replacing my fuel filter, I have the old one out and about to install the new one.

Once complete, I want to test for leaks. Normally, I first bump the key a few times to get pressure in the system, then if all seems OK I start & continue to look for leaks, but I saw a few guys mention a different method (jumping the relay, maybe?) I'd much prefer testing without starting the engine.

If there's a preferred method, would someone please post details?

Pull the RPM relay out of its socket. Jumper the brown wire to the white/purple. This will turn on the fuel pump. Key need not be on. Don't run it like this for a long time, in the event the fuel distributor is set wrong or you have leaky injectors you can flood the engine.

Holy Hanna! How tight does that top fitting need to be?!

i could see it spraying from the top washer. I gave it another "torque" and will test again.

I'm afraid I'll tear the threads out if I tighten it much more...

This has aluminum washers; one on top, one on bottom.

Top one is leaking, I think I'll tear out the threads if I tighten it any more than it is.

I think I got it fixed.

I took it apart, put it back together again, and so far...so good.

While I had it apart I took a brain-break & installed the fuel hose check valve.

I ran into the same issue when doing mine several months ago. The DMC filter came with aluminum washers and those things need to be TIGHT. Much harder to deal with compared to copper. I had a fuel leak from the top banjo on the first test, too. And it wasn't just a little leak.
