I finally figured it was time to upgrade my trusty HTC Inspire to a Note II, (would have got the Note 3, but I didn't see that much improvement to justify the price difference). I paid 100 bucks for the Note(with contract) and sold my Inspire on eBay yesterday for...you guessed it 100 bucks. I was pretty happy to get such an awesome phone for basically extending my contract. Well I just got it Thursday along with a nice case that happen to come in the same day. I knew I needed a screen protector for it and I had ordered a Glas T, which would not show up for a few more days. I didn't want to risk anything, so I stopped by the local case store and picked myself up a cheap screen protector after work.
On my way home, I took a curve a little too hard and my phone slipped off the console onto the step plate of my company van. I didn't panic or anything. I picked it up and placed it under my jacket. When I got home, I looked and saw it...2 pretty scratches right on the screen. No way to get them out. Here I was 5 min away from the house and protector in hand and this happened. :smashfreak: What really sucked is I am so careful with my things...My 2 year old Inspire didn't have one scratch on the screen. Now my 2 day old Note has 2 big marks. How could I have been so careless to place this phone on the center console and not the seat, or my jacket pocket? I am so mad at myself right now. I looked at screen replacements, but this phone's screen is laminated onto the digitizer. The Gorilla Glass also has a scratch coating on it so polishing the scratch out would probably make it worse.
I read that once the protector is in place, it would most likely fill in and cover up the scratch but I would know it's there, and 30 bucks is a lot to spend to find out. I did buy insurance at 7 bucks a month, (with a 200 dollar deductible). So in a few weeks or so I will go ahead and bite the bullet and get this thing replaced. I may wait a month to see if I can go that long without stepping on it, running it over, or some other stupid thing.
It's such a sucky feeling to think I was so careless with such an expensive device and even now thinking about it pi$$es me off. To be honest, the scratches are not even that bad, very small and with the screen on you don't even see them...but I have that damned OCD thing so every time I look at it I don't see a cool Smartphone, I see 2 huge scratches staring back at me.
Well if this is all I have to complain about I am lucky...pi$$ed, but lucky.
