Holy cow. Gotta wonder where the owner is:

https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=474109906044654&id=267432070045773

"My buddy works for a tow company in jersey city New Jersey. Today they got a police call about an abandoned car in a parking garage. The garage manager said the cars been there for 2 years and the owner can not be contacted. This is what they found when they got to the call. Car has universal studios paperwork in the glove box along with credentials that may prove that this car was actually used in the back to the future movie. Lastly the car has under 2k original miles. There are no keys but we are working on getting one made to get it running."

The car in question is a VB Conversion - his 7th one according to his Facebook Page.

Yep, his work definitely "stands on its own"... abandoned in a parking garage for 2 years...

Yeah, the fact

1) it's an automatic
2) it has a 21st century stainless shifter surround
3) stainless doorsill letters
4) incorrect tires
5) non-stock din radio on top of time circuits
6) incorrect looking Mr Fusion

...and this is without my knowledge of BTTF conversions. There's no way in hell this was ever a Universal car.

It's really quite astonishing how so many people still try to pull-off "it's a screen-used DeLorean Time Machine" bit. We just saw that happen a month ago at the Detroit Auto Show. (see thread: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?8947-DeLorean-shown-at-Detroit-Auto-Show-2014-BTTF&highlight=Detroit) The company was literally telling the attendees (and reporters) that it was a screen-used car. I heard that some DeLorean and BTTF people tried to correct them, but they refused to acknowledge that it wasn't what they were advertising it to be.

I know there are some people who could easily be duped or tricked into being told they have a screen-used car, but with so much information on the internet, DeLorean nuts like ourselves who have the VIN numbers, amongst so many other pieces of information that can verify the authenticity of these claims; but people still continue to try. Not sure what this guy on Facebook is trying to prove my making statements that there's paperwork from Universal in the glove box; who is he kidding? He may get some attention for the moment, but the truth will finally come out.

For future reference when anyone states they have a screen-used DeLorean, I just point to these two unaffiliated websites...

Actually it says more about the owner than VB. And your statement and poorly executed try to use this to slam VB says a lot about you too. How the Hell is VB in any way responsible? Why not just blame JZD for hundreds of DeLorean hulks rotting away?

Has a anyone considered the owner may have become sick, dillusional, or even died with no family or no family knowledge this car existed? Now that it has finally been towed, an attempt to contact them may be made, but I doubt it.

So what happens to this car if the owner or their next of kin cannot be contacted?

Sounds like the towing company would get to keep it and sell it off if it sits around their shop long enough (6 months or so).

At least that's what they guy who's claims to be friends with the towing company infers in the comments on that Facebook page.

Sounds really screwed up to me that someone can have a Delorean Time Machine conversion and NO ONE apparently knows how to reach the guy. I call bullshit.

Well he owns(ed) a DeLorean and a TM replica on top of that. He's bound to be just a little bit delusional.

I agree. Something is fishy. Or some formerly wealthy drug dealer is in jail.

Of course that 6 months will be outdoors in the weather, getting picked over by everyone who walks through the parking yard. I've not seen too many towing companies with particularly protected storage. Just fences and big dogs, no buildings.

Let me help a little with this.

This was my 7th build, directly after the "Auction Kings" car.
It was a black auto I picked up locally, VIN SCEDT26T1BD006462

I was contacted by someone with a dating website called "Vin Dicarlo" , Altare Publishing.
and they wanted the car within 2 weeks.
So, I am not totally proud of this build but we pulled it off in 10 days and it had real neon on it.
Here is a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWJ0MRnUeVg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWJ0MRnUeVg

They claimed they were going to have a sales contest in which an employee would "win" the car.
Last contact from them was last July 2013 and they were asking about getting the neon repaired.
I will see if I can contact the owners and the tow company and maybe I can provide some information.

Yikes. If this guy is the owner, he looks like a real piece of work.

I don't really get why people are saying he can't be found. This took maybe 5 minutes if even that.

And he's not too well liked either

"He" became real easy to "find" when I posted his name, business name and etc.
Before that, no one had a clue.....but, whatever.

For the record, I never met any of these people.
I got an email, a phone call, a wire transfer and a truck came to get the car.
That was that.

So whoever posted the pix on facebook says that there is info in the glove box indicating that it was owned by Universal. Well, that's fishy in itself. Why would we believe any of the rest of the post?

In light of this new information, it is the opinion of this court that thirdmanj (James) did willfully and blatantly use material in an Internet thread that had been previously been used by DL4567(Derek)..who was the original poster. By Internet law, DL4567 has a a legitimate copyright claim since he was the first to blatantly copy it and post it in a previous thread.

The punishment is as follows: 10,000 Internet points shall be deducted from James' account and placed in Derek's account until such time when Robert Zemeckis and/or Bob Gale register here. At that time all Internet points will be awarded to the rightful heirs...and the only ones who have a legitimate right to get all bent out of shape over this.

Haha Michael, I appreciate that laugh on this otherwise not-so-great day. I needed it.

James, I wasn't "angry" or anything in the slightest, just glad to see that pic getting re-used.

So I contacted the owners about this and this is what they said...

"Haha!
I can’t believe how fast a BS story can travel, now I just need to get our advertising to perform like that! On February 1st we actually moved out of our office, and into a new one about 3 miles down the road.
We had a nice indoor parking spot where the car was protected, so the plan was to leave it there for a week until we received a door pass for the new spot. Unfortunately the people at the old building didn’t see it that way,
and decided to call the police about an “abandoned car”! Believe it or not, they told the police that they didn’t know who owned it, and that it had been there for 2 months. Anyway, the guys with the flatbed were
nice enough to find an invoice with my number on it, and call me rather than bring it to an impound lot. So that’s the big story……the car is safe and sound again! -Graham"

I can tell you from personal experience that fighting for two years to get your first Delorean is wholly a worthwhile experience.

It's been about 20 years on and off- we're close now because I finally found one (by shear fortune) that I was able to whittle the owner down a lot. But I can see the finish line and can't wait to get started on the rebuild and eventually driving it.
