Not sure why they had to use a DMC-12 "clearance sale" ad from Consolidated as the poster for the DMC-12 instead of something a bit more upbeat - and lovable - from DMC themselves.

But there we are.

There is a some D bashing in the Comments section of the article from people who don't know any better but at the bottom I find a Steve from Portland, OR who says:

Obviously none of you have ever driven a DeLorean before. The smiles and reactions it brings from people are extraordinary. People simply love the car. I've been in multiple shows with mine and parked next to some of the most exotic cars, and beautiful classics and street rods and while people give them their due, they flock to my DeLorean. Have any of you almost been collided with on the interstate because the driver next to you was trying to take a picture of your car while driving? I have. Why do they love it? Because it is unique. Because it is a rare sight. Because it is iconic. Because it is beautiful in it's design. It's certainly not the fastest car - John DeLorean already invented one of those, it was called the Pontiac GTO. As DeLorean owners we like to say "We don't drive fast, we drive awesome." Cheers.

I have had numerous experiences just like that! Thumbs up for you, Steve!!

... People simply love the car. I've been in multiple shows with mine and parked next to some of the most exotic cars, and beautiful classics and street rods and while people give them their due, they flock to my DeLorean...

I had the only DeLorean at a street meet a while back, and there were the usual click-ish groups gathered there (Mustangs, Camaros, etc., and LOTS of Corvettes). I started to park near the Corvettes, but something told me to go farther down the line to park. A bit later, two really hot babes came over and asked me questions about the DeLorean (and people say the D is not a chic magnet??) I thought, wow, finally, my car is bringing in some opposite-sex attention at last.

Well, you know how it goes, I almost never brag but, this time I remember getting a little cocky for some reason. I ended up saying something to the effect of “Yeah, I was going to park next to the Corvette guys, but they don’t like me to park next to them because my car takes all the attention away from theirs“ (which is true, by the way).

Finally when the girls walked away, I watched where they headed, and they headed right back to the group of men they came with, the Corvette guys!

Here I am... Thanks for the kudos.

I simply could not let the opportunity pass to defend our honor.

One other thing I would add - I think the DeLorean really is the working man's exotic. I've seen Porsches and Lotuses (Lotusi?) on the street before. People don't roll down their windows and hoot and holler like they do to me in my car. At the grocery store people don't think twice about walking up to me. We seem approachable for some reason. I like that.

BTW props go to Dave Graham for the line, "We don't drive fast, we drive awesome."
