Heh heh heh.... Eeeeyup. I'd say this is on the high end, but still qualifies as the "25k rule".

Ken Koncelik has a DeLorean airplane tug and told me he was always keeping his eye out for a snow cat. I'll have to send this to him. :D

I had completely forgotten about those things! Sugar Mountain (a ski slope) in North Carolina has/had one- it is/was red. I often wondered if the college students who piloted that thing knew what a neat little piece of history they were using.

Wait WHAT?????
John DeLorean actually bought that company in 81 and 82 they were released as DMC. Later on they were renamed to LMC.
Sorry I am baffled just finding this out. What else did he create back then???

DeLorean Motoro Company owned LMC. It was branded under the DeLorean name. I think he sold it off though later on.

DMC did NOT own Logan Manufacturing Company. That's why in the picture of the VIN/Serial # plate is says De Lorean Manufacturing Company instead of "Motor". Completely different entity and was never under the corporate umbrella of DMCA.

LMC was the primary source of JZD's income for many years after DMC collapsed. I've no idea the details of the divorce proceedings, but JZD managed to hang onto LMC and Bedminster somehow, though LMC did briefly change hands at one point and was briefly under Christina's control before being returned to John. There's more, but it's nothing that hasn't been covered before though. I still can't find out anything about Christina Industries though...

There was also the Delorean bus. It never got past the conceptual/drawing stage. I don't know if it was ever clear who was going to make it but Logan was certainly a possibility.

Not quite true.... The DMC-80 was pretty much just a rebadged FFG bus. Ireland's transportation committee had been working with FFG on some new prototypes, and perhaps someone down south had connected him with the idea, I've no idea. In any case it was apart of the whole Global Conglomerate plan for long-term sustainability by exploiting underserved markets. The DMC-12 was for the sports car segment, the DMC-24 would have been for the luxe-sports touring segment, the DMC-44 was for the rural service vehicle segment, and the DMC-80 was for the public transportation segment that was solely served by GM for many, many years.

It was short-sightedly killed off by the Brits since they wanted all resources to go into the DMC-12 project alone since that's what they were investing in. Which at the time seems reasonable, but in hindsight was an abysmal decision. After DMC's plans were cut short, Neoplan USA opened up bus manufacturing facilities to take on GM (and did very well for about a quarter century), Porsche has had great success and acclaim with their Panamera, and you can't spit and not hit a Rhino/Artic Cat/Deere/or other OHV Quad/ATVs. Little things that really show how far ahead JZD was thinking.

Still though, LMC was JZD's personal investment. I know that there was the BofA loan that he took out for DMC, and then subsequently paid back that BofA wasn't happy about thanks to the lost interest he never let them acquire. But I do believe that he did take out another loan to buy LMC, so it was never financially connected to DMC, DMCA, DMCL, or anything else under the corporate umbrella, so he got to keep it.

As for the rarity of these LMC units, they're not. They do command a decent price, but that's just because the damn things are built so reliably. You can pick one up at many different locations around the US, and there are plenty of spare parts. I've thought about buying one myself, but I just have absolutely no use for it because there's no where to run the thing. I'd have to haul the thing up to the mountains, and even then only certain times of the year for the snow.

You don't need snow, this re-purpose comes to mind..

HA! Don't think that I haven't thought about that though!

I've seen some quotes online of about $4K just for treads alone. And you'd need to have the rubber ones installed for desert use. The metal ones are meant to pierce the snow and ice to grip. You *might* get them to work in sand, but in Vegas theres just too much rocks, debris, and caliche that would just bend the treads and tear them up. Even then that's not a guarantee that the caliche won't shred the rubber treads since they're still meant for sand, mud, and tundra. Plus there're just so damn wide. It's not meant for trail riding. You'd have to either have a ranch or head down to Glamis, a public beach that allows motor vehicles, or someplace with sand dunes.

I suppose I could justify an LMC tug and tell myself that perhaps one day I'll have something really heavy that I'll need to push around. But a snow cat? I'd have to be like Hunter S. Thompson in Colorado somewhere with a ranch or somewhere in a tiny town where I need to be mobile in a blizzard, or at least have tons of vacant land to tear ass across.

BTW, here's a really nice one up on eBay right now:

Will do. Though the DMC-12 is still in Vegas, patiently waiting in an anonymous storage unit...

Hi,

here is some more information about the DeLorean Manufacturing Company / Logan Division. At least I suppose it is.
Attached is an aerial photograph that came from the DMC records described as unknown location. On the back there is a note June '80. Using Google Maps, this could be identified as an area located near the airport of Logan / Utah. So I suppose this is something related to the Logan Division of the DeLorean Manufacturing Company. The third image is (C) Google Maps 2016 and shows the same area nowadays. All the buildings have disappeared.
The second image is a detailed scan of the photograph. That could be the snow plow trucks they produced.
Someone here from the Logan area who knows more about the LMC located in Logan?

Kind regards
Peter

That is indeed the former site of LMC, yes. Near the airport, and at the corner of Main & W 2500.

Logan may *possibly* have been under the DMC corporate umbrella at one time, but the corresponding DMC logos during it's time do not match perfectly with DMC. Soon after this brief period, control was apparently shifted over to "Christina" (company, not the ex-wife. unknown if Christina Industries from Nevada or Christina Corp. in Utah, or even both. JZD kept changing organization names) and taken away from DMC. Thus it became a personal asset of JZD and not DMC. Thus it was not lost in bankruptcy, and became JZD's source of income for the years to follow. Control for it was managed buy a convoluted series of corporations.

It would appear not all was well with the company, and once sold the sale itself became the subject of a lawsuit. Which also corroborated a story I was told years before by a former worker at the site. To put it gently, wealth was extracted from LMC without any reinvestment.

If you're curious to know more, click here (http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-10th-circuit/1319077.html). I'm not going to lie though, that story doesn't have a happy ending.
