Steering shaft

So The body is back on 774. The only issue we have encountered is the steering shaft is short of the pinion by about 1.5" almost 2''. Everything else lined up perfectly with the body, frame, and frame extension. I tried to adjust the knuckles to extend as far as they would allow but still too short. Has anybody run into this issue before? Is there an aftermarket replacement with better reach or more room for adjustment at the knuckle?

Is this a complete stock setup? Did you take the body off, put it back on and now you're short?

the shaft telescopes - I think you are saying your have adjusted to max length - but make sure.

Kings: Yes its all stock. The body was off then put back on. I've extended it as far as possible. I Don't understand how this could be so short but I'm planning on fabricating a new one using the two that I have. Unless someone knows of a better alternative such as an aftermarket shaft that extends further maybe?

Post a photo of the column at the bushing INSIDE the car, then outside where it comes through and another at the rack. Show the slip joint. You are doing something wrong, the whole body cannot shift a full inch on the frame and still line up with the body bolt holes.

When you say it's extended as far as possible, what are you talking about? The center slip joint? The column inside the car?

If the intermediate shaft is too short there are 2 possabilies. One, the body is somehow not sitting right on the frame and two, the steering shaft in the steering column is slightly collapsed. It can be lengthened by pulling it back out with a pair of pliers.

Because a power steering was built in, I have my previous one in the basement.
I can easily make a measurement for comparisson if you want .

I'm guessing it's collapsed in itself. I had the same trouble trying to get the steering shaft back in place. I used some needlenose vice grips and clamped the shaft through the metal shroud to keep it from collapsing while I slid the end through the column bushing.
