Catalytic Converter "pipe-to-flange leak"

There appears to be an exhaust leak around my converter pipe where it meets the flange....is this something common, with a common cure?

I've seen them separate there. It can be welded.

(I'm kinda surprised it's not already welded from the factory.....I don't recall ever seeing a cat without a welded flange.)

The factory workers must have been too distracted with trying to hide all that cocaine under the body panels.

The hard part about welding it is that if the flange has completely separated it's tough to get it re-aligned, and there isn't much room for error. You can't really weld it in place because you can't get to it. Might be better to plan on replacing the converter (or the exhaust).

It's not completely separated, just leaking a bit. It'll get tacked while in place, then taken down and run a bead around it (fingers crossed.)

The shop called to say they were able to weld it and the car is ready for pickup....whew!
