How do I find the engines top dead center?

Ok, I found this document, but I think it's for the 3.0 PRV. Does this work for ours too?

Yes that works the same way for our engine. You normally don't need to check TDC unless you have moved the timing mark plate. So then you need to set the plate when you install it again.

Now that TDC does not tell you if your on the compression TDC or exhaust TDC.

I guess I can look at the valves on #1 and see.

I had my engine rebuilt, and got it back. sans distributor. (I did that part, stripped most of it)

Is there a guide (jig) to remounting the timing plate? It's different that that one. I scratched it dead center on the mount screwed, but how knows if it was right to start with?

If you engine is still open, why not check it with that document info? Your scratch mark is probably close enough but after all your work, you want it perfect.

Thanks, I'm going to do that tomorrow after I put the timing cover on. Make sure it's 100%!
