Cruise control

Now that I'm registered and driving to DCS, I realized to myself, "Self, 1,800 miles each way is a pretty good distance to go without cruise control". So I want to look into installing cruise control in the D.

Who has an aftermarket kit in their car? Any advice/opinions?

I installed the Audiovox CCS-100 several years ago.

And I prefer this stalk over the electronic control that comes with the CCS-100. Seems more "stock" looking in the car.

Same here; same system, same stalk, same instructions. Kit is easy, straight forward, and reliable. Only thing to remember is that you can't use it if you have LED tail lights unless they're high draw or have some other resistor in the circuit to up the amperage to signal the system when the brakes are being pressed.

I have the mechanicals for this installed, haven't wired up the electronics yet.

I've heard of owners who have installed cruise control from Volvo. Cruise control for Volvo 760 (which had the 2.8 PRV engine)
Maybe you can find an OEM kit?

Only thing to remember is that you can't use it if you have LED tail lights unless they're high draw or have some other resistor in the circuit to up the amperage to signal the system when the brakes are being pressed.

I didn't know that, but it's useful to know since I have that kit on my car too.

One thing I would say about it is be careful where you mount it in the engine bay. The P/O mounted mine too close to some hot piping and it caused premature failure of some of the components. Fortunately I was able to repair it and relocate the module.

Relatively affordable/easy to install/already recommended and in use? Looks like the search is over.
I should be able to save up enough money for this to get it with enough time to install before DCS. Thanks!

Cruise control is installed!
For archival purposes, I wanted to post some pictures of how I set up my brackets for future installers of this kit.

The kit I used is the CCS-100, purchased on ebay for $175. It included everything I needed.

The wiring was easy, but time consuming. The writeup previously mentioned (http://www.ryanwright.com/delorean/ccs100/) was very helpful.
I took switched power from the rear defroster at the fusebox, and the blue wire that hooks up to the coil I hooked into the ECU instead, for a cleaner installation.

I was thinking about going with a stalk control, but decided against cutting into the steering column cover, and used the included control. I removed the rheostat and placed in over the hole. Looks good. I also wired all the wires that went into the rheostat together so the dash lights still work, and took the power for the control panel illumination from this spot.

A wiring schematic was very helpful to confirm all my plans before cutting into things.

I had to drill out the holes in the bracket and bed it slightly for the cruise control unit in the engine bay to mount it without making new holes. It gets vacuum from the line going into the pontoon, and is grounded to the top of the intake manifold.

The throttle cable is mounted to the small panel on the rear fascia next to the engine cover latch. I removed it, drilled holes for the bracket, hit it with a coat of paint, then mounted the bracket to it and reinstalled it to the fascia.

The speed sensor took the most imagination to set up a bracket for. I used the main bracket it came with, and a piece of another one together. I also had to drill out the holes on these brackets. I mounted the main bracket to the transmission and replaced the bolt with a slightly longer one to compensate for the brackets additional thickness.

Excellent job!

For what it's worth, I don't think myself or Patrick C have yet found the value in the blue coil wire. I've tried setting the system up to only work on tach signal without success. Nor can I seem the get the blue wire clutch cutoff feature to work.

It's easily doable in one day, although I did it over the course of two days (Friday and Monday). Mainly because I like to take my time when working, I also had to stop when the garage got too hot (it was at least 100* outside each day, and the garage get's hotter), had to go to a friends to borrow a bigger drill bit than I owned, drilling the brackets was a pain in the ass because I was trying to hold them by hand (I won't have my workbench, vise, or drill press until the end of the month) and I was doing other projects at the same time....

If you can follow instructions, I would rate the task as fairly easy. Read the instructions, prep everything you need in advance, and get started in the AM. It should not be a problem to be finished on time for an early supper. Go for it!

Thanks for the info! I can totally relate to the heat. I'm in Vegas and my shop is literally in the desert. It averages in the low 100s daily but doesn't stop me from working on my car. At least until I get dizzy lol! Sounds great, I'll pick up the kit and give it a shot. Patrick, with what we have been discussing how cool would it be to set the cruise on the ipad?
