This reminds me of a story…

Lots of times whenever a municipality wants to set the speed limit on a section of road, they'll set up radar trailers like this:

It gives them an idea of what the average speed is, and if they need to raise or lower it. Usually it gets lowered because people panic and creep by these things. Anyhow, back in 2000 they had set up one of these on a road by my old house. After I got off work late at night, I kept on flying by these things trying to get a snapshot on my camera of getting one of these to flash 88 MPH. I'd do like 10 passes at a time, and did this almost every night for over a week, which was how long they had them set up.

About 3 weeks later, the police had set up a massive speed trap where the radar trailers were. Which was all the more funny because they had about 5 or so cops waiting, and for the subsequent 3-4 days or so they were there I only ever saw them pull over about 2 people during the day. I guess I ended up significantly raising the average recorded speed, and they thought this little street was going to be a jackpot of speeding tickets for them.

Here where I live our roads are filled with fake speed-radars... must be effective if you think they're real.

My city uses several of these. There is actually a 1-800 number on the side of it and you can call and request it be placed in your neighborhood for up to 2 weeks if you feel drivers are speeding on your road. There are no tickets involved, but it does make people somewhat realize that they are traveling too fast. I must admit it brings attention to the posted road speed, and I myself have even glanced down at my own speedo to compare.

lol.. I used to speed past those radar things all the time on my motorcycle on my way to and from work and I just opened the throttle and went, engine braking as soon as I passed it. I never knew what those things were for, but I'm sure I got people tickets by putting that area on the cop's radar (Pun intended).
