Door trim

In the Delorean parts manual section 8 subsection7 group 1 you will find part #8 this is called trim pad A post rh. I need to remove this part --how do I do this? There is some wiring behind this that are burned to a crisp--they control the door lights and the over head console light and I have no clue what else.. While looking for a fan issue and radio problem I found this. everything on the car works except the dash light , overhead light and the door lights all of this is the same circuit ----the wiring runs up the door inside piece #8 so to fix it right this part must come off or else i am left with some rigging I prefer not to do.

That part, although it is shown on the page with Door Trim, is the cover for the "A" pillar. Remove the weatherstripping and pull it off. It is held on with plastic "fir trees".

But that will not expose the wiring. It is inside a hollow part of the stainless, at the back of the door. There is no wiring in the front pillar.

I suspect he is talking about the pillar trim that is glued under the windshield. #34 on this page.

It is glued to the fiberglass under the inner door seal, and unless it is a VERY early VIN car it is also glued to the fiberglass before the windshield is installed. So it either has to be forcefully removed leaving a somewhat ragged edge at the windshield, or the windshield has to be removed first (which will probably break).

These wires comes off the door switch and run up the post, these wires are burned all rubber gone off them. I would like to run new wiring in the same place and make this a neat job, of course i can run the wires on the outside of the post and try to make it as neat as possible, but as I said i would like to remove this part (34) but I dont know how to do this, any advice will help.

That is, use the old wires to pull in a set of replacement wires that are temporarily bound/wrapped to the end of that old bundle? I'm not familiar with how many turns there will be in that pull aside from the obvious turn at the upper corner of the windshield.

If that could be done then the new wires should be in exactly the same place as the old wires and most of or all of the trim could stay in place.

Depends on the car. The wires were taped to the fiberglass before pillar trim was installed. Typically the tape has turned to dust, so you may be able to pull the wiring through. I'd try that, an if it doesn't work, pull off the inner door seal, unglue the wrap and feed the wiring in that way. Don't disturb the windshield side. Success will depend on how patient you are and how hard/dried out the leather (vinyl) is.

I used the method DMCMW Dave described to run new wires down the pillar. My vinyl was either permanently fused to the edge or already torn. I cleaned away the folded edge and relied on inner door trim and a little glue to hold it back in place.

O.K. Thanks to you guys on line I have the wires ran inside the A pillar post and the door lights and dome light working, more advice is needed. Since several of my wires were toasted the ones on the glove box must be replaced the old ones was burned. I know that there is a purple and white wire coming off of the glove box light and i assume on that same post a black (ground ) connects. I am guessing that the purple and white goes to one prong of the off on switch on the front lip of glove box if so, what goes to the other prong? A nice wiring diagram of this area would be of help but if you could just tell me what goes where maybe i can put an end to my nightmare. By the was when working on the Pillar post a heat gun really help with removing the vinyl and also in puttin it back.

Scroll to the very bottom for the interior lights.

I believe it's Lamp: purple wire, and purple/white wire
Switch: purple/white wire from the lamp connects to the black ground.
