Over here in the UK every car over three years has to pass an MOT test (Ministry Of Transport) in order to be legal on UK roads. The test covers a variety of mechanical, electrical and emissions tests, some of which are more stringent for more modern cars.

Last January, following importing VIN#10719 to the UK it went through its first MOT test, and passed.....just. In that test a few parts needed fixing, or needed work.

Fast forward over twelve months and I've done loads of work on the car. I've started a facebook page showing all of them, which can be found at http://www.facebook.com/thedeloreanproject but include rebuilding the ECU, sorting the idle and fuel mixtures and a whole raft of other bits.

The team at my local testing station were fantastic, and really enjoyed testing the car. It flew through the tests, with the tester saying it was in "mint" condition. However, the best bit was the emissions test. The usual test is less severe for a pre-86 car, which according to the test wouldn't be fitted with a CAT. VIN#10719 passed that no problem, so we decided to put it through the more severe modern car test, which has more stringent emissions standards for modern CAT equipped cars.

The results were fantastic. For CO level, which has a limit of 0.3% the result for my car was 0.065%. For Hydrocarbons, which had a limit of 200 PPM, the car achieved a fantastic 3 PPM! Both well below what was needed.

The tester said that he was amazed. VIN#10719 had performed better than any of the modern cars he'd tested that day, even a brand new Audi A3. I was so proud. :)

Congratulation on you MOT!
We have almost the same test, here in France, every two years.
