Take out the old parts, put in the new parts. BTW the line is black not red (you must be familiar with Lotus).

The master is a two-person job to tighten the bolts, the slave definitely a lift job but can be done on jacks. Hard part on the slave is that it's helpful (but not 100% necessary) to have a helper compress the clutch slightly with a pry bar when you go to put the slave in place.

Unless a PO already replaced it with the RED PVC covered SS braided line from the DOC UK club.

Then he wouldn't be replacing it again.

I just replaced the slave cylinder on 4194 Friday night. Since I also had to replace a couple coolant hoses and the 3/8 hose from the splitter to the overflow bottle, I simply disconnected the heater hose from the driver's side cylinder head and positioned it out of the way. Once the heater hose was out of the way, I was able to swing the slave cylinder up and out without even messing with the clutch fork. Installation was surprisingly as easy as removal. I made sure to have new bolts, a number of different length 11mm sockets (including a 3/8 and 1/4 inch drive) and a flare wrench for the line. I initially backed the bolts off from the top, but I did the heater hose and the actual removal and re-install underneath the car. Not a fun job, but still easier than replacing the steering bushing!

In my opinion, even if the heater hoses are okay, it's worth spending a couple bucks on coolant to avoid dealing with that clutch fork.

Hope this helps!

Andrew

Hi Mick! We did all that and I have to say that it was more or less straight forward! Yes the slave is boring and uncomfortable, and we did it from the top of the engine. I replaced the line myself and as it was said the master is a 2 person job, but's easy. Don't underestimate rusty bolts.

Anyway you can find more informations surfing the forum and checking old threads!
