Here's a new one to watch on cars with corrosion issues. This is a bit scary.

This is the cast insert that goes into the body just below the rocker panel. It anchors the outside end of the seat belt to the body. This would have torn out in a pretty minor collision.

The part is readily available 101872 although a bit of a PITA to replace.

It's a nickel (potmetal) casting and apparently with enough moisture just turns into dust.

A bit scary.

What happens if it fails?

Very scary! Now I need to go verify mine are ok.

I would assume the seat belt is of no use since it is no longer properly anchored and you go through the windshield.

Just curious as to how you discovered that this one had corrosion issues.

Thanks,

We were trying to replace a bad retractor and broke the bolt off. In the process of trying to remove the broken bolt the whole thing came out like the photo.
