the headlights on my delorean are abysmal. its almost impossible to see 10 feet ahead of me. I plan on buying some silvania H4 bulbs, but i'm not sure how long they'll last, and whether or not there is a difference between the inner bulbs and the outer bulbs.

I have heard good things about these:

Low beams:

High beams:

You would need 2 of each.

+1 on the silverstars. The sealed beam design looks stock but you have better output and whiter light. I have them on my car and they are great.

There are a few other threads on the board that show comparison photos.

I've been using the SilverStars for a few years now. I like the brightness and color of light. They don't last as long as the original bulbs, for some reason, but not a lot of DeLorean owners regularly drive their cars after dark, so I doubt it would make much difference to the more casual owner.

I recently installed Sylvania Xtravision headlights. From the pictures I'd seen, they were almost as bright as the silverstars, with a significantly lower price. I'm happy with them.

I noticed shorter life with the silverstars also... not a huge concern since like you said, I don't to a lot of night driving.

I've also tried the Xtravision bulbs and those are nice too. Not quite as white on the color temperature but the light output is still much better than a regular halogen sealed beam. From what I've read they seem to last a little longer than the silverstars.

+1 on the SilverStars as well. These photos may help you decide... it should be pretty clear which side is which.
