View Full Version : Engine Valve adjustment for automatic?

I have seen and read how to video and articles on valve adjustment job. But unclear about cars with automatic transmission. It doesn't look like I can move valves by just pushing the car??? Appreciate any advices on this.

I did this a couple of years ago (for the first time); I think the procedure is basically the same as if the engine wasn't in the car. Chock the wheels, put the car in neutral, and use a 35mm socket to rotate the engine clockwise with the nut on the main pulley. At the moment I can't remember how much access there is to do this easily, though (I may have had my exhaust out when I did this last, and the exhaust may keep you from fitting a wrench in there).

Someone more knowledgable will probably chime in with better information. :)

You can make/buy a starter pushbutton and then you just disconnect the coil and bump the starter. You can either clip it right on the starter (difficult) or on the bulkhead starter connection (easier but you have to find it).
