just getting my ducks in a row since I will soon be the proud owner of 1981 Delorean thanks to Knightflyer's help!
I plan on doing some work myself, but for specialty items, I'll need a good mechanic. I do have a close friend that runs a very good independent european service shop, but their experience with delorean's is of course 0. He can do basic stuff, but for specialty items, I'd like to find an expert.
Anybody know if any marginally close to the allentown, PA area? (we are one hour north of philly.)
thanks!

I don't know if that's close enough for you but, the owner, Steve Schade, is an expert in most "special" cars and his mechanics are good. His shop has done work on a number of DeLoreans.

I'm not too familiar with that area or any active DeLorean owners/experts in the area, so hopefully others will respond with some helpful recommendations. Looks like you've already gotten one
On a side note - you're not too far away from the Poconos! I always wanted to visit the area before the fall of the shagadelic '70's resort era but just never made it out there. One place I definitely have to check out before it's gone forever is the Penn Hills Resort.

After all, I missed my chance to see the legendary and "beautiful" Mount Airy Lodge and Pocono Gardens before they turned into the modern hotel/casino that it is today. I'm sure that you probably remember these commercials:

Americana is being replaced by generic/dull corporatism. At least the Caesars resorts are still pretty much as they were during the '70's!

yup. I am only 1 hour from there, but you aren't missing much!
but I am only 30 seconds from "bourbon street". here is a show that hgtv did on a bourbon street replica room I built.
sorry for the off topic...but if any delorean owners are nearby and want to stop by, please do!

I can confirm that as I have seen a few DeLoreans parked there on my way to work in Basking Ridge. I have not brought mine there, but they seem to have no problem working on the DeLorean (I stopped and asked one day).
Just to give you an idea, I have seen Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches, Rolls-Royce, Lotus, etc, of all years. Lately I enjoy see the Lamborghini Miura that they currently have.

I was thinking of taking my car to new vernon coach as well. I'm in Manhattan and its about 30 minutes closer than PJ Gradys.

Drive the extra 30 minutes and go see Rob, you'll be glad you did. He's the best Delorean mechanic there is, he's been dealing with these cars since the beginning.
Rob worked on 15500 for me and it's still running strong. I drove the car from Long Island to Nashville with no problems. If your doors need adjusting, go ahead and get that done too, there's no one better.

Welcome! It appears there is no shortage of options in North Jersey, unfortunately for Philly or South Jersey folks like myself, the options are a lot more limited. If you find someone in the area who does good work, please share!

There's a western NJ? I only know of north and south.
I met one old mechanic who did a lot of Volvos in the Philly area that led me to an abandoned DMC12. He has worked on KJet before but you probably have better options up north like PJ Grady.

Tom Sweeney is a Delorean owner and owns and operates "Tom's Garage" in NJ. It's basically him and help from Marc Levy, and they work on Deloreans for other owners. Marc doesn't come on DMCtalk very often, but if you contact the Delorean Mid-Atlantic club via http://www.deloreanmidatlantic.com/ they can get you directly in touch with Tom and Marc. They've done extensive work a number of owner's cars in the region, including things such as completey frame replacements, AC work, engine customizations, you name it really. They can tackle and handle anything you give them, and cheaper than you can do the work at even the most reasonable of independant mechanics.
Also, just as a plug, our club's spring social is coming up on April 26th. Head to the website for details, but they will both be there if you want to talk to them in person as well. You should absolutely come!
