As the For Sale section rules forbid general discussion of the object in question, I thought I would open a general thread for just such a discussion, as it is such a special car

Firstly the main attraction in case you haven't seen it:

I was lucky enough to have seen it and get a good look while in Florida a few years back. I have to say seeing it in person is pretty cool especially when it's next to other Ds. It's interesting to look at all the changes.

I thought Tony had first dibs to buy it back, but I guess he passed on the opportunity.

I still have first right on the car, I made my fair offer to buy it back, they are looking for more.

My deal with Cliff was solely to protect the car, any real offer they get, I have to match or pass on.

I only want to protect the car and keep it accessible for the DeLorean community.

Great to hear! I still need to see this car. As excited as I was to see the gold AmEx car in Reno, this would easily surpass that experience.

Also, great photo of the radio, I haven't seen that before. Are those EQ dials below it?

Like many other, I'd love to see it in person.
It could be nice if it could go back to Tony & DMC Florida, this way it will be easy for the DMC community to enjoy the car.

A lot of the switches in the car are dummy's.

Did it have fully functional HVAC?

Why did they not design it to have an iPhone dock? They probably would have sold more of them if they did. :)

No it did not.

The car was meant to be photographed, not driven

I hope you get it Tony. It belongs in the hands of someone like you that will care for and show the car so that we can all enjoy it.

Yes, though keep in mind, it's a small Citroen 4cyl so you're not moving very fast  though you do have the benefit of full sliding windows!

Thank you to everyone who responded with an interest in purchasing Proto-1 from the Schmucker family. It, along with Pilot-21 have been sold to a buyer who wishes to remain anonymous.

The Schmuckers still have the Nissan powered DeLorean for sale, as well as a veritable mountain of parts. If you need anything, let me know. I can share a list of the parts available to anyone interested.

Best,
Josh

Josh, Tony Ierardi from DMCFlorida has admited to purchasing Proto-1 in this thread. (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?11315-DMC-Florida-s-10th-Anniversary-Open-House)
Does your post mean that Tony also bought Pilot-21?
I'd Love to see both of these cars at DMCFlorida at the open house.

George,

We did buy both cars, and I had asked Josh to keep it private until I was ready to announce.

Both cars will be on display at the DMC Florida 10th Anniversary Open House, our plan is to keep Prototype #1 at DMC-FL long term.

It will be on display in the showroom for the foreseeable future, the car is clearly labeled " For Display Only - Not For Sale"

Look forward to seeing you at the event.

Awesome news Tony. Glad it will be preserved, enjoyed, and displayed long term at your facility. Next time I'm in Florida, I'll try and swing by to check it out.

I was really hoping Tony would be able to get it back. I'm so glad this car won't disappear never to be seen again like 502 in New Zealand. I almost feel like Proto 1 belongs in the Smithsonian considering what represents. You could probably say that about a lot of historically significant vehicles though.

I saw it last weekend...I guess I got a sneak preview ;). Glad I didn't take pics and post them and ruin the surprise!

Thank you,

I sold 502 to a long time DOA member, its not "never to be seen again" its just a little far away :)

He and I have an agreement for when the time comes to buy it back and I will, but I hope he keeps and enjoys it for a long time.

Just as a point of clarity, I think you mean the Toyota Supra Powered DeLorean, not Nissan

Anyway glad to hear both cars have a new home.

I wish I could make it but, the 13 hour drive, (One way), tells me not this time...

Just an FYI, Gulfcoast Motorworks owns Proto 1 for a couple of years now and proudly displays it in our Delorean only showroom. It brings people in from all over the world. Please feel free to come by and take pictures of this historic vehicle.

We also have cars with mileage as low as 77 miles, a very famous Concourse car on display and even have Pilot 21 here (a bit rough shape but still very important to the history of the Delorean company).

Look forward to seeing you soon.
