Anyone know why my fan fail light might have been wired by a previous owner to come on when the rear defroster switch is turned on? I am guessing some wiring was just connected incorrectly, but just wanted to ask if there may have been a reason for this. Thanks.

No wiring crossed up, just the bulb being inserted into the wrong place. Check the other warning lamps.

All of the other lights in the console seem to work properly and I know the fan fail light relay was removed, so if I just switch the defroster bulb with the fan fail bulb, I guess the issue should be resolved. Thank you for the help David T.

Here are a couple photos to help explain.

You can see the bulbs can be swapped around rather easily, on purpose or by accident. You've likely just plugged the defrost bulb into the wrong holder.

It's super easy to change. The controls faceplate comes off by pulling off the three dials, temperature, mode and fan speed. Then behind the mode knob, there is a tiny screw holding it in place. The screw on my car was the 6 pointed star style, the name of it escapes me at the moment. Torque screw? You'll know it when you see it. Be gentle and don't force it for if it doesn't come out easy, figure out why instead of pulling harder.

Your fan fail one might not do anything, like you mentioned. It could have been rewired to tell you when the fans are on as some cars have been. The defrost one is easy to check if you can just push your defrost button and the door locks bulb will depend on whether you have your door lock module plugged in and functional.

The bulbs swap about as easy as the Red-Green-Blue ends of component video cables for your TV. You don't need to take the bulb out of the metal holder and wire, just stick it in the correct hole.

Funnily enough, mine did the same thing. Must have had the same mechanic
