View Full Version : Heat & A/C Where does this vacuum line connect at?

Can someone tell me where the small hot water valve vacuum line feeds into? I'm assuming it's some hard point on the intake but I have been looking for 20 minutes and can't find it.

A bit confused at this end.

Which hot water valve are you asking about? The heater water control valve?

And what's at the other end of the hose in the photo?

The other end goes into the pontoon.

Actually it may be less confusing to just tell me where the water valve is located at.

Is it one of the connections for this:

I felt around for this line on my car just now and I lose track of it just on the passenger side of center, heading towards the rear (i.e. towards the engine). From the various parts diagrams, including the evaporator routing page, this is the only thing that appeared to be in the vicinity I couldn't account for what plugs in to it. I don't see in the diagrams what is on the other side/inside of the pontoon to know where it goes when it disappears towards the left rear wheel well.

I don't think that's it. This line shuts off the coolant flow to the heater core when the temp selector is at max cold. Then again the valve may be on the other side of the pontoon and the vacuum line comes off the intake. I hope not as it looks like a pill to get to.

I looked all through my tech manuals but couldn't find a vacuum diagram for the ac.

Yep, the manual is a bit vague on that one.

Let's assume you really are talking about the heater valve. The hose in the photo looks like the one for the thermal switch, a different device, but you say it's for the heater valve.

This thread will help you see where the heater valve is and what it looks like.
http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?8108-Plastic-vaccum-line-drivers-side-engine-bay&highlight=heater+control+valve

The valve is beneath and ahead of the back of the fuel distributor. It has coolant hoses at both ends. The port for the control hose faces left. The back end of the heater control vac hose goes to that port (not to the intake manifold).

Assuming your car has the original valve orientation, that is. Based on your photo it does not have the original heater valve hose, which is the cause of the original confusion about which hose you are talking about.

That vacuum line connects to the heater control (hot water) valve. The valve is located between the bulkhead and engine towards the passenger side and is often buried from view by other hoses. It connects to the barb/nipple on the vacuum chamber of the valve. I trace the line and try to show where the valve is located in this video:

EDIT: I see that Rich already linked to where I previously answered the same question on another thread. You guys are good

#2 is the valve. The vacuum line connects to it, the other end of it is at the mode switch.

Thanks Josh and Dave! The video helps tons! I will re connect it tomorrow now I know a out where to look. I'm getting there is a other loose line I'm looking for that's connected to the valve.

Negative. There's a plastic nipple/barb on the vacuum canister of the valve that you simply slide the open end of the coupler onto. You can see it in this image:

Found it! After watching your video I had to go back out to the garage and I went right to it. Hooked it up, so now my AC will be even a little colder I presume.

Only on "MAX".

Michael's next model should be of 'Nell,' the Corsair class hero ship piloted by Richard Thomas in Battle Beyond The Stars (1980) and by Vince Edwards in Space Raiders (1983). I think he could do an even better job than this guy did:

No, Michaels next model should be a 1:1 PRV that can be taken apart to show cutaway views.

You read it here first !

At first glance I thought that was a turkey.

Well thanks for the votes of confidence but my next project is going to be a Buck Rogers Starfighter( A pretty expensive out of production kit). Got started on it in Feb. but I haven't had a spare minute to work on it with work being so busy and the car and house taking my left over spare time. It will have full working instruments and lighted engines. After that I'm dipping into vintage 1/12 scale Formula 1 cars for this winter.

PS, that's got to be the goofiest looking sci fi ship I have ever seen! By comparison, Buick Rogers in the 25th Century was lame and cheesy, but no doubt the sleekest hero ship ever.
