I searched every number on the cross reference page for air filters and almost non of them work. The ones that do work on your typical autozone, oreilly, etc come up as not available. What is strange is even like the Napa number given when I called napa they have no idea about that number. Is it not possible to buy a simple air filter from a store?

DMCMW should have them in stock. I ordered a couple last month and they shipped same day and made it to my doorstep the next day. The new ones have an additional mesh pre-filter attached to the normal paper filter.

I'd be careful about cross reference part numbers... if the filter is not exactly right it won't seal correctly and you can get air leaking by the filter. The old filter I pulled out of my car was a cross reference part the PO installed and was noticeably looser than the new exact fit part from DMCMW.

Does no one carry the stock/OEM green Crosland 9053 any more?

I just snagged the last NOS Crosland 9053 that I could find online - sorry. I had no idea that you couldn't source them anymore.

The dimensions of the stock/OEM Crosland 9053 are:

Length: 285.34 mm,11.234 in
Width: 133.35 mm,5.25 in
Depth: 48.41 mm,1.906 i

RockAuto has the Purolator A14275 on wholesale closeout at $5.45/ea, and the Fram CA6396 on wholesale closeout at $7.06/ea.

Filter Products Corp has the Luber-Finer AF343 at $8.54/ea.

http://www.filterspro.com/detail.cfm?part=2194677

*Note - While the Luber-Finer should work, it's a tad bit smaller than the stock/OEM Crosland.

For a complete list of direct interchangeables, see this:

http://www.yoyoparts.com/oem/3737723/crosland-9053.html#interchange

Killer Filter makes direct replacements of odd-ball filters here in the USA, but they tend to be a bit expensive:

Best of luck!

I think the "cross-reference" air filters on the list should be deleted. I checked nearly every one of them today and non of them work. It's a big waste of time trying to buy them from a local parts place. If they are left on the list it's just gonna waste peoples time.

It appears that a lot of manufacturers are discontinuing production of our filter size - just not enough demand to financially justify it I guess.

Also, many of the filters that were on the 'cross-reference' list were of the slightly smaller size variety, such as the current Luber-Finer AF343 is.

If I were you, I'd jump on the RockAuto closeouts of either the Purolator A14275 or Fram CA6396. They have the exact same dimensions as the stock/OEM Crosland and are being offered at wholesale closeout pricing. Stock up now for cheap while you still can!

If you're in a pinch and need/want one right away locally, Advance Auto Parts sells the Driveworks DW-23465. It's slightly smaller than the stock/OEM filter, but others on the forum have previously reported using it. They're $6.99/ea

If you wanted to go with a K&N reusable filter, the PN is 33-2726.

It is not just air filters, all of the cross-overs of parts are getting scarcer and scarcer. As parts move slower the computers realize that and remove them from the shelves and the inventory. Any good inventory program tracks the # of turns (the number times each part is sold) and calculates how many to keep in stock. At a certain point it no longer deserves a place on the shelf. It is removed to make room for newer, higher turn parts. No one wants to have a part that sells 1 a year. No profit. And you have to buy a certain minimum # so if you have to buy a case of 12 and you sell 1 a year it will take 12 years to turn a case. That is why you don't see old parts anymore and once they are gone they don't get reordered. Call up one of the Delorean vendors. I am sure you can also use an oil filter or a fuel filter or a strut or a light bulb. If you are that worried about getting a filter buy 2, one to use now and an extra for YOUR shelf!

I'm not worried about buying an air filter from a vendor. I just don't want BAD information on the cross reference list. I spent three hours testing all of the ones listed on the list and NONE of them work. Just trying to save other folks time and aggravation. The cross reference items for air filter are all invalid.

Yeah, I tested this one. It's for the smaller engine 1990 eagle premier. It's about a 3/4 of an inch shorter than it should be. That's way to much dirt for my liking.

Nightflyer, are you 100 percent sure that the Purolator A14275 is an exact fit? I don't want to order one and have it be to small or big.

According to yoyo parts, the specs are 100% identical to the stock/OEM Crosland. Same for the Fram CA6396.

I've only ever run the stock/OEM Crosland though, so I can't personally guarantee anything other than it. However, yoyo parts specs seem to confirm your findings in experimenting with the Driveworks DW-23465, so I'd presume that their specs are fairly accurate. That's the best I can do for you.

I'm not sure if the measuring standards are the same amongst the manufacturers, or if some are counting just the media, while others are include the sealing gasket as well, but here's the official info direct from the respective manufacturers' websites:

Purolator A14275 http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/Popup/Pages/PartDetailPopup.aspx?partnum=A14275

L - 10.98"
W - 5.34"
H - 1.65"

It shows as being a filter for the DeLorean on their website: http://www.purolatorautofilters.net/resources/pages/ApplicationGuideResults.aspx?mid=27&modid=650&yid=52&make=DELOREAN&model=DMC%2012&year=1981

Fram CA6396 http://www.framcatalog.com/PartDetail.aspx?b=F&pn=CA6396

L - 11.13"
W - 5.25"
H - 2"

It shows as being a filter for the DeLorean on their website.

And here are measurements that I just took of my current stock/OEM Crosland 9053:

including the sealing gasket:

L - 11.24"
W - 5.24"
H - 1.96"

just the media:

L - 10.59"
W - 4.52"
H - 1.76"

Given this, the Fram CA6396 might be the better choice of the two.

For what it's worth.

Best of luck

In a pinch you could buy two and cut each one to about 55% of its length, (or whatever it needs to be) and join them together.

{I thought only mods/admins could edit old posts on any forum, not just this one :dunno:}

In the meantime, Alex could add a post to the "parts cross over thread"

http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?932-Parts-Crossover-List

that would correct the earlier list as well as re-directing interested parties to this thread
