made to fit shift plate new blue lighter

270072700827009As you can see the shift plate has been cut in order to get into first and second gears. I choose not to mess with the linkage since the car has shifter great for 32 years (ain't broke, don't fix) . I may go back to the shift boot but for now I will run this. as you can see some of the fingers on the plate have been removed, it now works on my car but I am not sure I like it. The new blue lighter is installed as well as Dave's new ac panel. If you like blue you like this car, I love the blue sill plate panels at the door. Do you guys think the panel looks bad being cut and should I go back to the boot? I would like some thoughts on this.

Since you asked, not a big fan of how it's cut. I think I'd like it more with all the fingers removed. Hard to say for sure without seeing it like that.

With regard to the shifter plate, if you want a truly honest opinion, I think it looks pretty bad. Not trying to be a jerk, it just really looks hob cobbled together. The plate emulates the look of the gate on the European exotics, but with broken fingers, to me it really cheapens the interior. Like its something that you haven't gotten around to fixing yet (no one is going to believe your car has awesome shifting looking like that). It doesn't look like something deliberate, or something that is supposed to be that way. Sorry; maybe others disagree with me...

Otherwise I really like the blue. I was actually curious if you'd be able to get a grey shift boot and dye it light blue to match your interior. I think that would look pretty awesome, and really consistent. Be sure to put blue LEDs behind the AC panel. I have an original green AC panel but with blue LEDs behind it, and it only emits bright blue light; looks great to me.

Heres an idea, cut all the fingers off, file smooth, and engrave R, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 where each of the gear points are......

I think he already has the blue LED AC panel from Dave installed.
I also have the same IC panel in blue, blue window swiches illumination, blue lights in the doors, so I agree with the blue matching the car very well.
Also I have been looking for a while to get a blue lighter, never found it, so I removed it to under the passenger kneepad.
I had the dash illumination in blue too, but I went tback to white, it was just too blue. But I forgot to change the blue LED from the day counter, so that light is in blue, and by coincidence it looks great.

For the shiftersplate, I have to agree to what is previously written, not my thing either. I have the original DMOCO shifterplate but I removerd it because of the scratches it made on the stick shift. I think no teeth at all looks better to my opinion.

Well, you said you wanted opinions. I'm sorry but that looks god awful. I'd expect to see this type of thing in a Riced-Out Honda Civic, not an exotic European Sports Car. Just my 2 Cents.

Andy, I'm with the majority. Back to the boot.

Although, I wonder how it would look if you could open it up AND use the leather boot? (Kind of a surround).

I'm with you on not adjusting the linkage. (It ain't broke or, un-shiftable).

One thing I remember driving your car, was that shifting it felt just like mine. How/When our clutches engaged was a lot different though. :nervous:
(Next time I drive it, I'm Really going to try out that stage 2)... :)

Yes, being a good American when the people speak I listen. I have ordered a new custom boot and brake cover from Redline when it comes i will post pictures to let you guys know what you voted for. I do think I will cut the remaining fingers off and use the shift plate as a surround with the boot in the centre just to see how that looks. Good ideal George. To be continued. We have the (intact) gated shifter and love it! I also custom made a leather e-Brake boot with stainless trim ring around the tip. The look is sensational!
