View Full Version : Electrical Fuse 8 instantly blowing
I am sorting out a plethora of unhooked or non functioning interior wiring and I started with tge interior illumination circuit. I noticed the fuse was blown so I put in a new one. Push the headlight switch and pop. Any tips to diagnose this or common issues? Im guessing there is a short somewhere.

I have had that problem. Mine was a short in center console. Try removing the two screws on the shifter plate.
My car is in pieces right now. Everything is removed. So check for nicks in the wire in the console area then?

Yes, good place to start.

How are your side marker lights, Josh? The gasket around the lens tends to let water in over time and rust out the bulb socket. Perhaps something is dangling in one of those four spots and shorting out to the frame or quarter panel?
This may seem silly. But if the car is inside try a new fuse in the dark, a short will make a large flash.
Great idea guys. I just noticed the right side exterior lights are tied into this circuit. Wow is that a silly setup. I have replacement sockets so I will snip those off and go from there. Another great idea waiting for the dark to see the spark! hehe, that rhymed.
Since everything is apart, you might follow the RO (Red/Orange) wire at the fuse to the six way branch, disconnect them all there, then see which blows the fuse when you hook them back up one at a time to the one from the fuse...
One of those wires goes to the Rheostat. Check it first since there is another branch on it and you can do the same thing w/o wasting time on the others (...well, check them too just in case there is more than one short).

This is exactly what I did. I dismantled the branch and went to work with my DMM. Turns out it was my error. I eliminated the Air conditioning lighting resistor and relay but instead of connecting the Light Green/White to the Red/Blue I connected the Red/Orange to the Red/Blue. I removed this wire and attached the now unused Light Green/White wire from the factory stereo (no dimmer) to the Air conditioning lights.
