Lately I've noticed my paint has started fading under the clear coat on the front fascia. It's only visible in certain light. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is a trip to the body shop my only solution?

Time for a repaint.

BTW I do not believe the OEM paint was a clearcoated paint.

It's not original. It was repainted back in 2000. Not bad for 14 years.

Not bad at all for a car that sees the outdoors.

Does that car have a reinforcement piece added to the fascia for straightening? The paint wear looks oddly uniform across the front. Do most cars wear like that? Just curious.

Do you know if this car was ever wearing a bra? If left in place in humid/damp conditions this kind of thing can happen underneath with any car.

I see that at least once a week. If it's base/clear there is not much you can do outside of repainting it or just having the top spotted in. If its moisture trapped under the clear as suggested by a bra, you might, I repeat might be able to pull it out with a heat gun but it's very easy to blister the paint especially on plastic. A safer way is to let it set in the sun for a few hours.

If it's single stage you might be able to cut it a little but you can't cut much on single stage metallics.

This was an accident repair back in 2000. I talked to Rob Grady about it a week ago and he said it might have the stiffiner in it but wasn't sure.

I've never put one on it. That's not to say in the years I didn't have the car someone else didn't use one. But most of that time it was in storage and only had a few hundred miles put on it.
