The console tray, the one by the driver's elbow, is no longer black. Does anyone have any insight as to coloring (recoloring) the tray to black again. I was thinking of spraying it black but I suspect there is a better alternative.

I'm prepping to re-dye my interior (hopefully this weekend.) Mine is grey, but searching for threads I saw a few guys that used black with good results. SEM is what I'll be using.
Here's one of the threads: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?153-Have-you-Dying-Vinyl-Parts&highlight=vinyl

I have used SEM Classic Coat which is designed for leather and vinyl. Be sure to follow the prep instructions and use the adhesion promoter. Since its such a small piece, you might be better off to take it to an interior repair vendor at any car lot. He can either paint it or flock it (your choice) for less than what you would spend doing it yourself.

My console tray has a fuzzy finish. It is not a vinyl/leather finish. Are all console trays fuzzy? Would the SEM work on the fuzzy finish?

In that case, the vinyl dye doesn't sound like a good idea after all....

Early cars had a flocked finish. Later cars were not flocked.
Flocking kits are available. I've used one for another (not car related) project and it turned out well. I'm not sure if the adhesive would hold up well in the heat or not.
