I have some stubborn dirt/brake dust in the hard-to-reach areas of my wheels. Do you think I could use steel wool on the wheels without scratching them (stock wheels)?

Thanks.

I would not suggest it. I believe the rims are coated and that steel wool will score it. Try using a nylon brush with firm bristles

Yes, I use the lugnut brush method routinely, but it's the really stuck on stuff that's giving me a hard time.

Try Sonax. Does an incredible job on brake dust. .chemically bonds with the brake dust to lift it off the surface for rinsing away. It took off caked on brake dust that nothing else would touch.

Steam cleaner and q-tips. Works like a charm. The steam cleaner also works great for the engine, door channels, channels of bonnet, carpets, etc.

Get an old tooth brush and grind it so it fits between the fins. Use a brake dust cleaner. Let it soak. Do not use steel wool, it will scratch the paint up.

Sponge brushes plus a good cleaner.

I clean the regulary and this helps a lot.
But important is that if you store your Delorean for a longer time (wintermonths) to store the car with good cleaned wheels, so the brake dust cannot eat into the pain during the winter, becase it will do that.

I use a special product for cleaning wheels too. I am affraid to use high pressure becasue it may blow the paint right off.

Just tried Sonax. I think it helped a little, but not quite enough.

Keep at it; mine were pretty bad and it took several washings to get it all off. I spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, then use the three prong lug nut brush to scrub the wheel before I power wash it off.

I'm surprised the Sonax didn't work. Try the Sonax again, scrub with a semi-coarse brush, then repeat.

I've occasionally used Cif bathroom cream to clean alloy wheels, it's very mildly abrasive, I think the abrasive agent is actually chalk so very soft and shouldn't damage the surface of the paint.

It works like an absolute dream, it's also brilliant for cleaning splattered bugs of the windscreen, headlights etc... not sure if you have it state side but I'd be amazed if you didn't have something similar.

Can't find a before/after of the DeLorean wheels but I also used it on my wife's car when we first got it and the wheels looked awful.
