Interior lights, engine compartment lights, speedometer troubles

She runs and needs a tune up and a bath, but by God she runs.

Now the electrical fun begins! No interior lights, door lights, trunk light, or engine compartment lights work. I replaced fuses. Also when I have the headlights on my "lights on" indicator does not light up. If I switch to bright, the bright light indicator comes on.

Are there grounds that I need to check that would make sense for none of those lights working? Any other ideas? Checked a few bulbs, they look fine.

Also the speedometer does not work. Checked the dust cover associated with the angle drive. Checked and tightened connections following up to the speedometer. I have read that and angle drive goes out all the time, but anything else I should check?

Often the culprit of inoperable interior lights is the switches at the doors. Ensure the spade connectors are actually in place and if so, jiggle the switch a bit and see if anything lights up. They made need tweaking.

The cabin lights always seem to die on door open function, but work on "demand" function. See if thats the case too.

Your green lights indicator may be fine, but you might need to clean the contacts on the circuit board gently with some fine emery paper or crocus cloth. I had a binnacle once that required me to clean EVERY single contact point, some multiple times before everything worked. It's very common.

You can carefully put the angle drive on a drill and see if that yields any results (run the drill in reverse to simulate driving). If the speedo works, the dust shield may be slipping or not making a good connection with the angle drive. If it doesn't work, check the cables in stages before and after the lambda counter as well as the counter itself.

Thanks for the reply. We got the door lights and the dome light to work in "on demand" mode. I had to clean the bulb connections with some sand paper and we found that a bad engine compartment light switch was shorting out everything else. Well everything but the green "lights on" switch.

Where is the circuit board for the green headlight indicator? I'm guessing we need to take apart the dash?

Will check door switches and tweek where necessary. Will also be checking angle arm/speedo problem tomorrow.
