My car seems to be running well but two noises are ruining my enjoyment. I've just finished cleaning out the VOD, changing the HT leads, plugs, rotor and cap, plus painting everything. While I had the valve covers off I tried to cure a "clacking" sound which other have said was a sign that the valve clearances were off. I carefully set the distance of the intake and exhaust at 0.10mm and 0.25mm, as recommended in the manual, carefully following the procedure. The problem is that the "clacking" still persists. It seems worse when cold, but it's still there when the engine is warm. Do they need more adjustment? A friend said that they may have "dished" to some degree, and therefore may need to be tighter than the manual advises. Sounds like a bad idea to me. What do you guys think?

The squeak up front also ruins the driving experience, not to mention the street cred of the car! Strangely when first driving the car, when its cold, there isn't any squeak, but after about half an hour of driving it sounds like an old bed. Seems to be worse when turning, but any bump sets it off. Something need grease on the steering rack?

Wheel bearing maybe? That happened to me a while back.

Maybe you mixed up an intake and exhaust valve? As for the noise in the front, lubricate the ball joints, control arm bushings, shocks and mounts, and sway bar bushings.

Well lubricated all the joints, etc as you recommended David. Last year I did do the mammoth job of cleaning off all the black "protection" coating from the car, so I'm wondering if that caused some of these joints to become a bit dry, although I did add lubricant afterwards. Cleaned, and greased, so have to see what happens when I next get chance to take her out. Only happens when the car is warm, so maybe its a joint near the radiator which is the culprit. Anti roll bare maybe?

As for mixing up the intake/exhaust, I certain I didn't do that. It's fairly simple after all.

I'll try to do a video of the noise and post a link up.
