What is this hose?

Trying to determine what the circled hose is coming out of the left side of the engine compartment. Anyone know what it is and where it connects to? This is a stock photo I found, not my D, but the hose is not connected to anything in my car.

Vacuum hose, connects to the heat control valve (above the flywheel, right side of engine) IIRC

It runs to mode switch in the A/C panel at the other end.
