I came across Giorgietto Giugiaro's 1986 U.S. patent for his DMC design. I figure some history geeks here would appreciate - Enjoy!

Great find! Thanks for sharing.
That is pretty awesome. Thanks for finding and sharing as well!
Interesting...
Where did you find these? I ask because I have some artwork that features a couple of these images which I assumed were not real patent images due to the date of 1986... Surely no one would have filed patents on a car from a company that died 3 years earlier.
If these are real I'd be curious to know their providence...
Cheers
Steven
Yes, they are real. Giugiaro is the Inventor. Patent is assigned to Delorean Motor Co.
US Design Patent #283,882
LINK: USPTO file D0283882
The patent office interface is a tad clunky. Hit the "Front Page" and "Images" buttons on left side of the linked page to load the pdfs in question. Arrows toggle the pages.
If no luck try another browser....this link didn't work in Firefox, did work in Safari here.
The document does say the patent was filed in 1981. So it just took a few years for it to be granted/issued. I see "patent pending" on many different products. I guess it just takes the patent office a few years to get through all the paper work.
Coolio.
Cheers

I must say I prefer that grille shape and the smaller, slightly rounded headlights. Nice details.
Updating this thread with this link to a more easily printable document of the 4 page U.S. design patent Giugiaro obtained.
New readers will notice that patent application artists aren't always particularly accurate with details. It's normal in that practice.
